  • Which is a better manual: Chilton or Haynes?

I have 4 books on Haynes. I'm thinking of switching over to Chilton and see if that's a better repair manual.

      Actually I like having both...

When it comes to torque specs and the like for our 3.8s, the Chilton book stinks. I'm still wanting to get the two service books from GM.

installation is the reverse of removal. :spank:

                          i hate that line.

I know it's bad form to quote myself, but I want to change my answer.

I was doing an automatic tranny fluid flush on my wife's Jeep this weekend. Keep in mind, I only drive manuals, so this was foreign to me. The flippin Chilton's had very, very vague instructions. "Fill with the appropriate amount of ATF". uh..shouldn't YOU tell me what that amount is? "Torque to the specified amount" uh..again? hello? What is it? Dropping the pan required removing the dipstick tube bracket. The Chilton's had a single line "drop pan". F!

I checked my Hayne's for the FB automatic - detailed instructions. I was very suprised because my past experience has been the opposite.

BTW, I hate automatics. They can all die a horrible painful death.
