  • Sweet new racing stripe

I was driving down a two lane road when a guy braked hard randomly infront of a early 90s Dodge Caravan and the Caravan swirved into me. The only thing wrong with his car is a broken head light and his new bright green metallic front quarter panel. On an upside I'll get the inside of my mirror clean. (I wanted to use the frown face, but I'm over my image allowance)

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its alright I guess. Insurance will cover it. I had someone like 2-3yrs ago do the same to me but it was simply cause he didnt want to wait for traffic to turn and he didnt look before he pulled into my lane. Atleast the van didnt try to take off like mine did.

Just take it to a dealership cause they are your best bet for the best job unless you know a goo body/painter guy. where ever you go, get a warranty from the shop. My shop has a lifetime warranty :D

I'm fine thanks. I already did all the insurance stuff tonight so I'm just waiting to hear back from them. I assume they are going to have to cut out the panel and replace it. I don't know much about body work.

Would a dealer be able to paint it or would they sub that out to a shop they use? It's just going to be a huge hassle that I didn't need right now and I'm concerned about them matching up the paint well. Would it be worth it to have the guys fix some stuff that is bothering me like rock chips? I assume it wouldn't be too much more expensive since they are going to have to respray a decent chunk as is.

          Re: Sweet new racing stripe

well most dealerships have their own body shops but if the ones around you dont...well o'well. I would push hard to have the whole thing or a chunk repainted. I know the insurance companies don't like it but its not your fault she hit you and it's not your fault you want it to look like it did prior. It wont unless you do this. Just remember to make your point that you want it to look like it did prior to their client hitting you and you know that it wont otherwise. Also, don't use the ones they recommend unless you know they are good. they recommend those body shops cause they know they can push the cheapest work through them by an agreement they have together. Also, when you sign the papers to get your money. protect your *** and make sure its not a binding thing preventing you from doing supplements. I had a big struggle not too long ago when my girlfriend hit my car and the insurance company wouldn't give me my money until i signed that type of contract so i could go ahead and get it fixed. my big story aside, make sure you can do supplements. Make sure the body shop replaces the panel and does not bondo it. bondo/body fill will chip off, I promise. This is a time to focus on #1 and protect yourself from extra cash you have to fork up and protect to quality of your car. Did the person get a ticket? the police officer at my similar wreck gave that old bastard a ticket.

Sorry to see that happen. I hope the right shop gets the job, and not just the cheapest.

              dude, that sucks. sorry man.

don't worry too much about the paint matching. any good paint shop will blend it right in. After my car was hit, half the of right side was painted, and you cannot tell.

Also, Make them pay for the rental car. Insurance, Mileage, everything. Dont think you'll get away with having them pay for gas unless you can prove they are trying to stick you in a car that will cost you more than normal. ;)
