      Re: wow

There are things we should hold reverence for and the American Flag is one of them.

I guess it might be good idea.... but it would get complicated fast. I mean what technically constitutes "desecration"? If i throw my flag in the garbage.. is that desecration? If moths eat the flag in my closet, is that negligence in regards to defending a national monument? Am i going to get jailed for spilling barbeque sauce on a table cloth flag on July 4th?? And what about all those little flags everyone and their mother bought after 9/11? Do those need to be dealt with in a special "respectful" manner too?

              Re: wow

Any American flag short of something with just the design like a table top cloth should be dealt with properly. Letting it be eaten my moths and throwing it away in the garbage is desecration. I do believe flag burning is freedom of speech though.

X2. And that is precisely the problem with this country.

                  Re: wow

I use to wear a do-rag that has the American Flag symbol and I use to wear those baggy bodybuilding pants that has the American Flag--yeah '90's thing. I would play with them, workout with them, and get them all dirty. But that's not the same as protesting.

What's meant is that people use the American flag in public protest and then burn them to make their statements known. This is more for media sensationalism and to get other people upset.

I know people get all worked up when they see other nations burning the American flag and we're ready to fight back. Should we tolerate that in our country?

There are ways to protest without burning the flag. Its biting the hand that feeds you

                      Re: wow

... makes me wonder if other countries have this problem. I would guess no, because patriotism in America is about 925629852 times what it is in most other nations.

The freedom of speech thing is intresting, but i wonder if burning a flag also treads on the right to petition the government (goes along with biting the hand that feeds you blah blah).

Actually they shoot you in other countries. I forgot what part of Africa it is but one guy wore a shirt that express his hatred for that country's President and this guy went to jail for 20 years.

Well anyway, I just heard in the radio news that it didn't pass. You have the majority of the Democrats to thank for.

Now, i'm pretty down the middle of the road on things politically, and while I don't agree with the idea of flag burning, it's freedom of speech. I'd never do it, but i'm not going to get into a liberalesque wrist flicking match over it.

BUT, if a liberal wanted to ban this flag burning... I have a feeling it would be hailed by all who hate GWB!
