  • Some new news on the 5th Gen SS....

I just got my GM High-Tech Performmance mag. and it had this in it about the SS 5th Gen Camaro.

    RUMOR HAS IT...

CAMARO SS TO GET BIG POWER

The current rumor circulating around the Motor City is that the Camaro SS could be powered by the LS7 or even the supercharged LS9. Due to the introduction timing coninciding with the Corvette Ss, the Camaro SS wouldn't infringe too badly on the typical Corvette "king of the horsepower hill" attitude-would it?

I really hope that is true, because I'm planning on getting a SS, as long as it doesn't cost to much over $30,000.... If it's above $33,000 or $35,000 then I'll just stick with a Z28 and fix her up.

I bet they do. GM loves that SS moniker too much to not slap it on a Camaro. It will be the only car worthy of the badging, in my opinion.

When I read that Corvette was considering an SS option, that just didn't sit right with me. I hope it never sees fruition, but like I said, GM really likes slapping those two letters on almost everything nowadays.

they will never make a SS corvette but will in the end, make a SS camaro. The z28 and or SS camaro should be expected to be from 32K-36K

As long as it's around the 33K to 35K area, I would consider an SS, if it goes up near the 40K mark, I'll just stick with the Z28 and mod her. :D Although, if the Camaro comes with the OBD III, then I won't be buying one at all, I'll just try and find me a 69 and fix her up. :)

Im not sure where you are getting these prices at, but if GM comes out with an SS Camaro, I bet it WILL be in the neighborhood of $40k. The 2002 SS's were in the $35k mark, and if this car is to be in production for the 2009 year, then that will be a 7 year gap between Camaro's. No way in hell that they wouldn't change the price. Face it, cars get more and more expensive, and in the last few years, they are getting exponentially more expensive. My guess, $37k-$40k for an SS, $33k-$38k for a Z28, and in the mid to upper $20k for a high end V6.

but if it hits the 40K mark, it will be too close to the corvette to be worth buying it. thats why i believe it will be in the mid 30 range.

No....by that time, the BASE Vette will be minimum $50k. That will be about a $10,000 difference between a BASE model Vette and a top of the line SS Camaro.

Well they're bringing the Camaro back to compete with the Mustang naturally. Therefore i'd expect it to be priced competitively. Before, the Camaro was always a grand or two more than the Mustang, i'll bet it won't be much different this time around.

It still looks like GM is considering badging their Blue Devil Corvette Concept a SS in the near future. We'll see. It'll be hard to tell what the Camaro will go for when it comes out. One should probably look at the price of a GTO to best gauge the pricing of the Camaro. The GTO is a part for part mirror image of what will be available on a Camaro. RWD, V8, IRS, same assembly line, same audience... Possibly a good model to use as a base idea.

good point. didnt take into consideration the increase of the corvette retail.
