    Car is in the shop!

    Just dropped off the car today to get my cam and related parts installed. I'm having the Comp GT2 cam installed. The shop will be dyno-ing the car before and after install, so I will post those numbers for anyone interested in getting a cam.

    I bought:

    LS6 90# springs

    ZZP steel retainers

    upgraded pushrods (same length as stock: 7.05")

    new timing chain

    hydraulic valve lifters

    The car will be dyno-tuned using HPtuners.

    I'm so excited! Car won't be ready til next week though...time to study for summer classes. :(

      ~$1500 for the tune, cam/lifters install. They're charging me separately for the lifter install, whereas the cam/springs/retainers, etc. are all just lumped together.

          sweet, congrats!! stock heads? try and get a sound clip , it'd be real nice. definatly post up the dyno number's and if you have the time a full review of the performance difference. keep us updated on everything. cammed car's sound sick.

            BLLDOGG: In order to get to the lifters they have to take apart more than they would to simply install the cam and replace the springs, pushrods, etc. Yes, this is extreme performance.

            Tell me if this is wrong...do they have to do anything extra to get to the valve lifters? It doesn't seem like they would have to, but I might be wrong.

            Thanks! I will make a long post, hopefully with video and sound, and will post dyno numbers.

            yes, stock heads: my only real mods are Flowmaster 80 series, 3000 stall Edge converter, 3.42s with LSD.

              LOL, I just got a call from the shop and they recommended AGAINST dynoing it before the install, the lifter was ticking so bad. Damn, they work late...

              Update on the lifter thing: the reason it costs a little bit more is that they will have to pull out the intake in order to install the lifters, but with cam/springs they don't have to do that. Originally he thought he'd have to pull the whole motor, but he was mixing my motor up with an LS1 :)

                I just did a head and cam swap they have to pull the lifters out in order to pull a cam. you are being taken my friend.

                  thing to keep them from falling through is the cam. I don't see how they
                  can pull a cam without taking the lifters out.

                  I'm sorry but that extra charge sounds like bs to me.

                    you know what the more I think about it, the more i remember someone telling me they could do that. If you pressurive the crank enough you may get the lifters to sit up, maybe??? You could save a lot of money and pull your upper and lower intakes rockers and rods yourself...maybe if you want. I guess it depends on how much they are charging you.

                      well, you can do little trick to keep the lifters from falling down....

                      Just dont let them rap you by charging you full labor for just the lifters. if you let them, they will get more money then they are worth since they will be almost there and at that points, its no big deal taking the intake off. How much is the lifter install charge?

                        They're not charging me full labor- they're discounting on the lifter install since I'm having the other labor done as well.

                        They said $425 for lifter install BEFORE they knew they didn't have to pull the engine. I don't know how much they're going to charge me now. I think around $250 would be a fair price, then discount it.
