      Re: Wow!

what most dealers use is a tech 2. it is really expensive but its pretty much the best. better than a snap on scanner and you also have to update it which i hear is freaking expensive also.

Yep, at my local Pontiac dealership they took this big black bulky handheld to completely reset my SES and ABS INOP codes but they also ran a printout from the handheld what the codes meant. I peeked at the screen and left it to the tech to decipher it.

I would agree technology comes at a price to make life easier for the GM tech to fix and troubleshoot the problem quickly.

yeah but i mean... DAMN! i think its probably so the general public cant troubleshoot thier own cars. the dealerships make a killing off of them too. its like 70 bucks to have it scanned. too bad the tuner kits like HP cant do the stuff that this thing does. i wanna get one cuz a buddy is a tech and i dont know him very well yet so i dont wanna constantly bug him but he was playing with a Tech 2 on my car and the stuff he could figure out without taking anything apart was amazing. but not $5k amazing tho.

Those things are crazy expensive. I used to work at a service station who used Genesis I believe. It was basically a handheld computer that told you everything about your car. That thing was $8k I believe.
