i thought that it was a great game and both teams played thier hearts out but wtf...they play for a month to b crowned best team and it comes down to c which goalie can guess right...thats like havin the NBA comin down to a slam dunk contest in game 7 or in the World Series comin down to a home run derby contest...its retarted that it comes down to a shoot out...id rather c it go sudden death til that final goal is scored

The ref did not watch the reply, they do not have any sort of replay review in soccer as of now. He conferred with the linesmen (guy who calls offsides and such) who informed him that a frog had just headbutted a player.

Sudden death is cool, but as you saw, games can last for 2 hours without a goal, which means it could easily go a lot longer without anyone scoring. Plus there are only 3 subs per game and even though these players are probably some of the most fit athletes in the world, they would be dead tired after 3 hours of soccer

nah, the ref didnt see the replay, but my opinion is that in a case like that, they should be allowed to use the replay to make a decision. that was a massive deal, and zidane deserved to be punished, the ref not looking at him at that exact moment is not reason enough for him to not be punished for it.
zidane is an *******, he has always been one. he is a great soccer player, but nothing that hasnt been seen before. he has no right to be that cocky.

i prefer penalties to sudden death. every team has a different playing style, some play better under pressure, so when the other team scores, they start playing better to catch up. teams like that are screwed with sudden death.
and yeah, it would have been terrible for them. the average soccer player at that level runs about 8 miles per game, so with overtime, they ran at least 10, and sudden death would have been even more.

i just dont like it...they play all this time to just to basically c who can score more in a 5 shot shoot out! y dont they just do that for all the games and save hours worth of running around? i mean come on...i can c it now... because its not an american sport. if the american people dont like it, they can keep watching football. there is much more to soccer than goals. some of the best games ive seen have been 0-0. its all in how the teams are playing, shots on goal, etc.
i agree that its weird for the game to be decided by penalty kicks, but if zidane hadnt gotten that penalty in the 8th minute, italy would have won 1-0.

Because FIFA are THE most stubborn and "pc" governing sports body in the world.

Anyway, i'd like to see the most important matches decided by something other than penalties. The points about sudden death are well noted, but you could always change the rules slightly to allow more players to be subbed. ... OR you could eliminate the off-sides rule. That by itself would make the games much more high scoring.

As for France and Zidane... its too bad tied games aren't decided by headbutts

This is the exact reason the NHL went to ****ing ****. They think everybody wants to see high scoring blowouts. No, not really. Its not an American sport obviously because most americans have no patience and loathe the idea of a tie.:tdown:

if ur fine with endin with a tie then y play? if ur play a competitve sport and u settle for a tie then go play tee ball...all im sayin is that its stupid that things come down to a shootout with soccer...hockey is 100% harder to score on a shotout IMO...
