About a year ago, I put 4 JL door speakers to replace my factory speakers as well as adding a 12" JL sub. About 6 months from then, my right channel of my factory headunit blew out so I replaced it with an old 1995 Panasonic headunit that I was given by my girlfriend's dad. It is pretty sweet old headunit. It has a removable faceplate so no one can steal it, and more options than my old factory headunit. Anyways, now the wiring harness (I assume) is starting to mess up. Only one and sometimes two speakers play at a time. When I look at the back of the head unit and push the plug that plugs into the headunit around, it plays on all 4 door speakers like it's supposed to.

So now with that being said, should I take it to a radio repair shop and see if they can fix the plug on the harness or should I just buy a new head unit? I noticed that head units are getting cheaper and cheaper.

If I should get a new headunit, what is the best bang for the buck?

Personally when I'm looking for bang for buck and a high quality deck, that has good control, and clean outputs, these days I'm getting alot of Clarion decks to customers. They are happy, I'm happy. I used to sell alot of Alpine but they changed everything now, and its like $500 to get 4volt outputs...

But depends on how much you want to spend, Alpine still makes a decent deck, but you are going to pay, Clarion, Eclipse... A few others I really love, but the prices are way high, Denon, Nakamichi ect...

That is if you want a new head unit, which is what I recommend. Look at Pioneer, Apline, and Eclipse. Try out some models in the retail stores, then purchase online.

I am currently looking into spending about $150ish. I don't need many options... Just need something that can sound good for a budget.

Installation should be free, since you should be doing it yourself. Its really easy, and since you already had an aftermarket deck, you probably already have an install kit to fit it to the dash.

I got that deck installed, so no, I don't have an install kit. Is there a guide somewhere on the internet on how to install in our cars?

The install kit is the dash kit and wiring harness that you need... Lol

Its really easy the mounting kit literally is a piece of plastic with the hole in it to slide the deck in. Around the deck is a little metal cage with all these little tabs you bend to hold it in the plastic dash kit piece, then the deck slides nice and easy into the cage and locks itself into position. All you need are the little "keys" the deck has, *sometimes you don't need them either*, and pull it out of the cage, and then be careful and take the cage out of the dash kit and the harness. Wire your new harness and put the new cage in. It's really actually dead simple. Best bet, find someone around you who can show you once, and you won't ever forget. Decks are simple, too many people are affraid of them, and in some cars, they should be... Seen too many people blow stuff up, but in our cars no worry at all, its a cake.

yeah, if you already have a deck installed you dont need a kit, you already have everything that is in one, like nikos said, just pop the old cage out, then cut off the deck's wiring harness from the harness that plugs into the stock one, then wire up your new deck's harness according to color to the harness that plugs into the stock one, plug each end into its corresponding end, then slide her right in and she should work
