thats a vid of my friends TT vr4. mmmm. i was driving with him once while he was going 65 in third gear, stepped on it, burned all 4 tires!
I am willing to bet he invested a few dollars in upgrades over teh stock setup.

Re: What's your general opinion on 3000 GTs?

hey everybody forgive me for being new. i just recently got my firebird and whatnot, recently joined the forum, thats another story.

      deoxy,

first let me say thats awful what happened to your baby. i lost my fiero gt to a drunk driver and in a fiero you can imagine i almost lost my life so i can relate bro.

3000gt's are truly strange cars to deal with. they cost alot of money, they are mostly front wheel drives (downfall of their breed) but i've seen people make nice street cars out of them. don't let anyone tell you they can kick it on a drag strip either. bull. of course you can run a 10 with TT and awd. try running a 6 in anything but rwd. good luck.

overall though they are super cars in their own respect but you hav to have some bank to get them there. working at a dealership for a year and a half i can't tell you how many 3000gt's and stealths i red-deviled to fix their head gaskets. their gaskets are terrible.

best of luck to you man, but of course i've gotta say stick to your roots. f bodies don't lead you wrong. oh and i read those **** comments on the 3000 forum and those pussies wouldn't know performance if it defecated all over them. good cars? yes. step up from an f-body? my arse. but my heart goes out to you man and i hope you have the best luck bro.

and to everyone out there it seems like this forum is pretty well done and i'm glad to own another GM.

        Heavy and fwd =

        I'd only take a VR4. AWD + turbos spooled up =

Re: What's your general opinion on 3000 GTs?

Here's my take on them from back in the day when I comparison shopped the a new 3000GT or Stealth to 3rd gen Camaro and Firebird.

I seriously considered getting a 3000 GT or a Stealth back in 1987. I bought my 87 Firebird instead. The main reason then was that their prices were much, much higher than comparable F bodies back then - unless I wanted a stripped-down, non-turbo 4 banger.

Additionally, I test drove one and saw that the front seats very nearly touched the rear seat when the front seat was put in the farthest back position (which is where I need to have the seat).

Great looking cars - especially the 3000 GT, but they were just not worth it to me back then. And yes, even then everybody considered the non-turbo 3000GT / Stealths to be horribly underpowered.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

i was at a drag strip in colorado, there were a bunch of those, pretty good looking, can be made fast. One thing i noticed about all the ones at the strip, they were REALLY QUIET. didn't sound like they had any power, but you could see that they did when you looked at the board.. still, get a camaro :)
