  • What's your general opinion on 3000 GTs?

I'm looking to replace my Camaro (which I just totaled if you didn't see the other thread) and I'm just wondering... what do you guys know about them? Good? Bad?

Just wondering general opinions. I figure after ruining my dream car.... every camaro I'd ever look at just wouldn't measure up to it... it was great in every respect... It's probably just make me sad trying to find one exactly like it anyway (and I only have about a month to find a new car).

Regardless, the primary model I'm considering to replace it is a 3000 GT. I know it's foreign, but at least it's not ricey :P (at least I don't think so), plus, at this point, they're looking pretty cheap, and I should have enough cash leftover to repair anything that needs it.

From what you know... Are they powerful? Notorious for anything?

Thanks everyone, I really value your opinions.

So basically you're giving me a generalized brandname prejudice but no informational backing.... -_-'.

I need some logical backing, and about this specific car. The 3000GT is a car you don't see around much but has a really nice body which I like. Please give me more info than that you just don't like foreign cars.

        Thanks.

they're heavy, the turbo ones are decently fast, i dont know that much about them. maybe try google for a 3000gt/stealth forum.

They're very cool looking cars. The VR4 has over 300 crank hp and they can be made very fast.

Re: What's your general opinion on 3000 GTs?

my buddy had 2 94 gts, they were nice.

Interior is cool, everything in there is made for the driver, feels
like your sitting in a cockpit.

my 01 firebird was faster than his 5 sp stock

but overall, i think they are the nicest car that mit made back then, and if it is a VR4 then u cant go wrong.

if you can get one i dont see y u wouldnt

ive been trying to get one for my 2nd car cuz i really do like them

I dont think youll be disapointed if u get one

Re: What's your general opinion on 3000 GTs?

                  The NA ones are slow

The Turbo ones aren't bad but they're heavy (~3800 lbs)

Try to find one with low mileage, those things are known to have transmission and drivetrain issues.

Not a bad looking car though, definately ahead of its time.

Like what was suggested above, I'd get on a few 300GT and Stealth forums to learn what to look out for. Then, find a reasonably low mileage example to take home. Because you see them affordable, that could mean their abuse rate is gonna be pretty high. Learning from those who own them could be a wise move, as you already know. It's too bad you have such a short time to look for one. That might limit your options too much depending on the market for them right now.

my friend has one. he likes it alot. they have the same issue with the headlights fogging. he doesnt have the turbo one and i beat it stock. it has more horespower up top which our cars lack but i took him big off the line and he was short shifting a little bit. first time to the track tho he broke his flywheel and sent it through his bellhousing and shattered his starter, radiator, fans, pressure plate, clutch disc, and pierced the actual transmission. if you get one i suggest the VR-4. twin turbo, AWD, 4-wheel steering, and fast as hell. they are good cars but i think you should hold out for another camaro. maybe upgrade to a z28? just a thought

Only thing that would bother me, is that you cant (at least i think you cant) get a deep power full sound out of a 3000gt like you can a camaro with flowmasters. but other than that I think there a pretty killer car, i wouldnt mind having one, it s kind of a medium between a ricer and a camaro in my opinion.

Replacement parts could be quite costly, but they look nice nonetheless.
