I went with my sis last night to help her pick up a laptop on sale from Best Buy last night. It's ridiculous the speal they run you through after you decide to buy the thing...
"For a low price of 30 dollars, we can supply you with a FULL recovery disk that will bring your computer back to brand new status bla bla bla if it ever fails."
You mean the recovery disk burning option that immediatley pops up when you first start windows? No thanks, I'll burn it myself for 2 dollars in DVD's.
"But you don't understand, it will cost you 70 dollars if you order the disks from the manufacturer, and we can't sell them to you again after this offer!"
No...
Can you imagine how many people they screw out of 30 bucks?
Then its the virus protection software BS. Only for the low price of 150 will you get a 50 dollar virus program hassle free! Yay! Not only that, you have to pay a yearly fee to keep it updated. I bought E-Trust Anti-virus and internet security for 10 bucks, unlimited updates.
Next comes the protection plans, for 250 bucks! The guy is like, "Its totaly worth it! It covers everything, even if you spill a drink on the laptop, drop it and break it, but it WILL NOT cover a virus if you get one and it messes up the computer." So my sisters like, ok, so if I get a virus, whats to keep me from smashing the laptop on the ground to get another one? Hes like, uh, well, uh, yeah I guess so. Owned. :p
Nothing against the salesmen, I know they are required to say this stuff, but man, Best Buy must make a killing off the poor people who don't know any better. Dude seriously killed a good 10 minutes of our time explaining all the accessories we should buy from them.
