but a friend of mine had a Hyundai Accent, taken care of since new. nothing major but routine maintenance. She bought it new or almost new. I forget.
It was a 2000 and hit 60k miles. It was losing oil between oil changes, she woudl have to put in about a quart. then she says its smelling funny, I pop the hood, vavle cover is leaking I get a new one, and put it in, fixes the leak, I also did plugs and wires for her. But there was not that much oil coming from the valve cover. It was just leaking on the exhaust manifold.
So, we start notcing it was losing more oil between changes, we look everywhere for leaks, none. At one point we added 1.5 quarts of oil between oil changes and it was bone dry at the next oil change. no leaks, anywhere we throroughly looked for it.
So the thing bascially consumes an entier pan of oil between oil changes. THEN I let her know I would dump that think ASAP. Its was worth like $1500, but she owed $4k on it still.
We just searched around, found a sweet deal on a Nissan Frontier(she wanted a truck bad, her first vehicle was a truck) and traded in and just added the cost to her new vehicle.
don't car how good they are I will never own a hyundai, daewoo(or rebadged chevy version) car ever.

They get better every year. 10 years ago, they were pretty cheap and unreliable. These days they make some decent cars. My sisters 2004 Kia has been perfectly reliable, and still looks good, inside and out.
here is a thread about a guy on fuel**** that has a "beater" like '03-'04 tiburon he is trying to get rid of because it sucks and his warranty is starting to run out. He has a C4 vette and his reasoning for getting the Hyundai is beacause of all this press of "better build quality and reliability"
and Kia rios? A co-worker of mine had one that was always going in for problems, covered under warranty but hey the car was only like $8500 new.

The 2000 and below Accent are really bad but the newer ones are very nice. The new Accent has 115hp and it only weighs 2500lbs.
I use to owned an Accent and I get like over 40 miles to the gallon with. It was perfect for my wife who puts 86 a day to and from work. It was reliable as anything. I find it more reliable than the Civic DX I use to have. For a lot less money it actually has more to offer.
We traded it for a 2003 Santa Fe and I like this mid-size SUV too. 34-36mpg
Hyundai is really picking up. A lot of their engine and tranny are Mitsubishi derived. The new Azera with a 3.8 V6 has 263hp (Yup, you guess it, Eclipse engine)and it looks and feels like a BMW inside. The body style is not bad.
Overall I'm please with Hyundai. Customer service, warranty, and price are pretty good. I have no complain. By the way over 70K on the Santa Fe already and it still drives like a new car.
my brother got a 98 accent for a beater/work car, paid $800 for it. its a M5, 82K, nothing power ( inclulding steering and brakes ) it's his first manual car so he LOVES to drop the clutch everywhere he goes, and he does. he beats the hell out of the car. he's had it for about 5 months now and theres nothing wrong with it besides the exhuast isnt really on it anymore ( we tryed jumping rail road tracks with it )
my sister has a 97 or 98 tiberon, bought it wrecked, odometer/speedo wasnt working but it said 97K, but when me and my dad looked/smelled the oil we both knew either it had way over 97k or who ever owned it before her never changed it oil. the car now has 140K on it and runs like top, only problem is she's gone through 4 windsheild fluid motor's.
IMO,over-all they get a thumbs up from me.

I have a friend with a Kia. It's only two years old and seeing rust. The warranty really sucked when he and a "representative" of Kia delved into it's coverage.
i dunno, i heard they had a 100k mile powertrain warrenty. ya cant beat that with a stick... yeah, ya might hafta go to the dealer more often but i mean, DAMN. thats a good warrenty i dotn care what anyone says.

At least, to my knowledge, they never had a recall due to violent tire failures on the road. Only to have the 4 tires replaced that were on the car, and not the spares. Now, there are problems where the replaced tires are wearing, and the owners are having the spares installed to get by. And what's happening again? Apparently, accidents. Some fatal.
I just saw a report on CNN a few days ago about this. Granted, it's not on the scale of the original problem, but something to think about whenever you see an Explorer on the road.
But in that video, look who the critics are, those damn Brit.
Have you guys ever been to England? Have you seen what they drive over there? They should be criticizing their own cars.
Besides, in the 80's they were criticizing Honda and praising Toyota more. Now it's like the best in reliability, emission and fuel economy.

And anyway, britain don't make they're own cars anymore, unless you're talking about morgan and TVR and such... in which case you can't really compare them with korean POSes

Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
