  • Help with Camaro purchase

Hello to all. I'm new to the boards. Here's my situation. I had a Grand Prix GT with the 3.8 V6 that I loved, but I missed driving manual. I sold the Prix, and I bought a Acura Integra GS w/ the nonvtec engine. I've decided I want a Camaro instead of the 4-banger. My question is will a 3.8 V6 Camaro be noticeably faster than my Integra? (Say in the 1/4 mile or stop light to stop light type racing) I'll be looking for a manual. Of course I like the idea of having the V8, but the insurance, gas prices, and having to use premium fuel are swaying me towards the 3.8 family again. Please help me out. Thanx to all.

my 98 when it had just cai and exhaust walked all over a 02' eclipse GT (pretty similar car). I wouldnt imagine that a stock Integra would be able to take out a 3.8. But you should know, you had the GT, do you think the integra is faster?

The 02 Eclipse GT has a V6 right? Actually its funny you ask if my Prix seemed faster than the Integra. I briefly raced a Grand Prix with my Integra and lost pretty bad, but I didn't get a good look to see if it was a GT or a GTP. It was kinda embarrassing. My wife said, " I thought your Integra would be faster." That's when I realised I made a mistake buying the 4-popper. I figured I'd ask for opinions before choosing either the V8 or V6 camaro.

yea the eclipse GT motor is also rated at 200 hp. Now v-6 or v-8 the age old question, here's what it comes down to for me, and it has been said here before. There is just something a little more satisfying about knocking someone out with a v-6 then there is a v-8. No better feeling then when someone is like, hey thats a pretty fast Z......no dude, its a V...6.

Here's something else...The guys on the Integra forum have been flaming me for wanting to buy a "pos American car". The 3.8 is one of the most reliable engines I know of...American or foreign...Correct me if I'm wrong.

3.8 is VERY reliable, there are many members on here at 150K or more with minor repairs and tune-ups.

Well its hard to blame them really... (but we will anyway). All across the world american cars are slanted for being "crap", for having "cheap" interiors, and "inferior" handling... and unfortunately that point of view seems to have come across to the import drivers :(

Don't listen to them tho, camaros rock! They're certainly better than their souless rice burners :p

                      Re: Help with Camaro purchase

The 3.8 has been listed as one of GM's ten best motors in more than a few magazines. It's a great motor.

Now, for deciding to buy a V6 or a V8, I guess you should consider the mods available out there for each. That is, if you want to really wake the motor up. The 8s defintely have a stronger and broader range of aftermaket parts offered for them. And, they'll run quicker for less when it comes to the add-ons. And, I haven't seen a huge price difference in my area for '96-97 Eights or Sixxers.

However, as someone stated above, there's something to be said about people seeing what you did, and then seeing you did it in with only six cylinders. I blew the doors off some guy in his 5.0 Mustang on the highway after he dared me. He followed me home to see what I had under the hood. I told him it was a 6, and he didn't believe me. So, I popped the hood and watched his jaw drop. And that was when it was s.t.o.c.k. It was one of those perfect moments.

I think I'm leaning towards the V6 because it is quicker than my 4 banger by quite a bit, and it'll be cheaper on gas and insurance than the 8. Oh and I too look forward to the "wow" factor of blowing away more expensive machines with a 6.

alright....time to steer you in the right direction. 3.8 firebird/camaro is faster than both the GS integra and the GS-R. also faster than an eclipse GT v6. Go for a firebird also...... =)
