  • screwed up today tell me what you would do

ok so here goes I am on my second day of a new job, I'm soo much happier where I am, people are much better and I think I am really going to enjoy the work.
So yesterday I get my new computer but I don't have a login yet to get on the network so it's prettymuch useless, I am using an old backup computer which I put some files on so I could do something. I'm working away this afternoon and they finally get me a login so I set up the new computer and try to get on the network.
That turns in to an hour or more ordeal. Meanwhile I look up and the clock on the computer says 5:10. I get off at 5 so I get my stuff together and leave. Finally head out of there at 5:20 or so.

So later I get home talk on the phone with my dad for a minute and am straightening up my living room when I look at my atomic clock on the wall and it says straight up 5:00. It takes me mabye 10 minutes to get home. What the hell is going on? I realize that the clock on my computer is wrong and I left work like 40 minutes early at a place that seems to be somewhat strict about keeping to 8-5 no comp time no flex time. I'm guessing the computer is set for eastern time zone.

Now I don't even know if anyone noticed I left and I really won't know anything until tomorrow, my boss seems like a really cool laid back guy so I think if I brought it up when I showed up at work about 30 minutes early in the morning and say "hey man I made a bonehead mistake yesterday" he would be ok with it yet at the same time I don't want to look like a total idiot who doesn't even bother to look at his watch much less capable of doing my job.

so should I just show up to work tomorrow and keep my mouth shut put my head down and work or go to my boss?

    whacha think?

honestly most bosses prefer that people own up to their mistakes. say he did notice and plans on waiting all day to see if you come tell him and then when you dont holds it against you like your a lazy guy and are trying to leave work early without them noticing. he'll think you did it on purpose and not by mistake. also if you tell him about it and he didnt notice he'll feel more comfortable about you knowing he has an honest worker in front of him that can own up to his mistakes. everyone makes mistakes. own up to it and you'll be perfectly fine.

HA, I would just talk to the boss, becuase if he finds out and you dont tell him, he could get pissed. He might just laugh it off also. He should if he has a sense of humor.

Tell him. Unless he's a complete bonehead, he'll take it as proof of your honesty and likely will find it amusing.

It is perfectly OK also to tell him that you were apprehensive about telling him, but that you knew it was the right thing to do. He should value that.

hmm seems that everyone seems to be reinforcing what I was thinking, i'll just tell him tomorrow like I was planning on

on a side note I should be heading to San Francisco for a week or 2 for work soon, now if I could get them to give me the time to drive and pay me mileage, I bet a cool shot of my car near the bay with the golden gate bridge in the background would get me a spot on the feature f-body page :D

Re: screwed up today tell me what you would do

That reminds me of a story of when I was waking up for school. I looked at the clock and saw I only had about 10 minutes before I had to leave so I quickly jumped in the shower. Got out and looked at the clock and saw that I had about a half hour before I had to leave. I was so confused. My clock sits right above my bed so I was reading the time upside-down and only read the last two numbers. so instead of 6:52 it was 6:25. I was too tired to see straight.

Anyway on topic, I would tell the boss.

I've done plenty of retarded stuff.

Once I glanced at a clock, saw the hours hand wrong, spazzed out... rushed to get to work... and realized I was a WHOLE HOUR early. I was pretty frustrated....

Honestly is always the best policy. Always. Tell your boss, and make a point of being on time henceforth.

Yup, tell da boss. You will feel better about it (I do), and he should feel confident he has an honest worker bee.

I used to work at 6:00am - 3:00pm. After getting home, I would take a nap b4 heading out to my buddies place. Well, a few times I would wake up at around 5:00pm, (winter time, It's dark at morning/evening.) I would be sooooo confused as to wheather it was time to go to work, or to my buddies place. hahahahaha - felt pretty dumb.
