    [rant]
Well it started back in November when my right heel was hurting really bad, so I went to the doctor got x-rays and ultrasound and found that I have tendonitis in my achiles tendon.

The doc prescribed Aleve and ice everyday...didnt help. Then physical therapy...made it hurt worse. I went for a second opinion and she made me wear a 'walking boot', which is basically a removable cast, for 6 weeks...didnt do a dam thing. So I went in this morning to see the results of my MRI and the doc told me there is nothing left to do except surgery :( There is fluid and calcium deposits collecting where the tendon meets the bone that need to be removed. This is where it gets kinda gross, they need to cut open my foot, detach the achiles from the bone, remove all the fluid/calcium and reattach the tendon.

I will be in a cast with crutches for 6-8 weeks and the 'walking boot' again for another 2-3 weeks. She said I wont be fully healed and ready to run again for 6 months!!

The worst part is, I wont be able to drive for 10 maybe 11 weeks cuz its my right foot  I will be scheduling the surgery for the end of August.

    Ugh...

 Good luck brother. Stock up on ice bags. I had two knee surgeries and ice was my best friend. I bought something called a cryo-cuff that wrapped around my knee and filled with ice water from a cooler. Not that expensive, but made the healing must faster.

I was gonna say that. Teach yourself now while you still have righty as a backup. I can drive lefty, it's not hard. The first time you hit the brakes it will remind you of your first time driving!

I drove my manual Jeep with an immobilizer on my left knee (maybe this should go in the stupid car stories thread). Imagine clutching without bending your knee. ;-)

11 weeks? Try 11 month. That's how long it takes for it to recover. And you're going to have a cast that's up to your pelvic with your toes pointing down. It's very uncomfortable.

I ripped my right achilles tendon from doing weight training in Oct. 20th of '04. When the doctor told me about surgery and how long the recovery process is I just said forget it. Because I couldn't afford surgery and I couldn't afford to be out of a job.

I do walk around with a limp but it's not too bad now. I can't run though or do Squats which happens to be my favorite exercises.

I wouldn't be driving with any sort of cast that inhibits your ability to, thats just asking for it to be your fault when you get in an accident

Oh lord. I have the exact same problem with my right heel. I have been just dealing with the pain for the last 6 months and had been considering going to the doctor for it.... No way in hell now.

I found that changing the shoes I was wearing and getting some shoe inserts did help a ton though.

                Re: Going under the knife...

bummer....that sucks actually. i had surgery on my elbow about 6-7 mo ago to take out some cartilage that was getting stuck between the 2 bones in my elbow making my elbow "lockup", as in i couldnt move it at all, couldnt straighten it, couldnt bend it, hurt like helll and annoying as hell, still does quite a bit though. actually everymorning when i wake up, my elbow is locked up and i cant move it at all, i have to rub and massage it for like 5-10min to loosen it up, then its fine. i have arthritis already in my elbow, im 24, i shoudlnt have arthritis that young. my elbow is all ****ed up, its my right elbow, and you might ****ing know it, im right handed. it all started when i was about 10, was told by the dr that i couldnt play baseball/football or any sport for that matter for the rest of my life. oh god, that was like kicking me right in the nuts, because i played baseball from when i was like 5 untill i eff'd up my elbow at 10. sorry to hijack your thread. g'luck w/your surgery.

That sucks, but at least your getting it fixed so in the long run it wont hurt. Better to fix it now, than have it develop into something bigger later. We should probebley get in a few runs at the track before you go under the knive, one last final hurahhhh for you and your Camaro.
