I've been in this house with my family since i was 2. 17 years. We had the basement waterproofed about 11 years ago, and now today it flooded. Its been raining all night and day, and is still raining, the hardest rain i've ever seen in my life. Theres a golf course in my backyard that usually floods a little but now its a pond. You wouldnt even recognize it as a golf course. Water is flowing like a river all the way down behind all the houses to where its settling behind our house, as well as the rest of the street. Right next to the golf course is a park, all of this runs along behind the backyards of my street. The park is completely under water. 3 feet deep in some areas, and its unbelievable. We talked to about 5 or 6 neighboors who have all had their basements flood out as well today.
Apparently some water was coming through the walls, we saw it spurting through little holes in the cinder block (this happened to our neighboors who also have their basement waterproofed). Then we heard a gurgling and looked at the drain in our laundry room in the basement. Water was coming up from it really fast, and this is also what happened to everyone else. All the drains around here are backed up. The water finally went down. The bad thing is we have a finished basement, carpeting, entertainment area, weightbench/machines, work room. All of this got flooded. Now keep in mind only a couple of inches, but still enough to do damage. The carpet is worthless, so that'll be getting pulled. Me and my dad spent a half hour while the water was coming through the drain moving valuables upstairs. We managed to get an antique drysink up stairs safely. The worst loss is a chest that my dads great grandfather made. He was a wagon wheel maker, and built the chest to hold of of his tools, some of which handmade, and we unfortunately had no way of moving it due to its weight and being kinda pushed far back in the work room where we "thought" it was safe.
This sucks so bad... And as bad as this is, I can only imagine what others have gone through with flooding, and be thankful that ours wasnt even comparable..
...sorry for the long post, just trying to get some stuff out of my head...
