So I ordered brake rotors and pads a while back, and since over a month ago they've been sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. Now originally i was going to do this myself... but then i decided that rather than play with fate, i'd just wait until i got my car lowered and have them installed then.

So, over a week ago i bought shocks and springs off of ebay: KYB AGX shocks and Vogtland springs (who?), some of you might remember the thread. Anyway they arrived two days ago, and yesterday i took the car to Pep Boys to have everything done. I should have caught the omen from the phone conversation really, but being an idiot i missed it.... On the phone i told the guy (mark, his name was) that i wanted my brake rotors, pads, and my new shocks and springs installed. He said "ok, so you want to have new brake rotors, pads and shocks installed?" to which i said "don't forget about the springs". "right right" he goes, and quotes me a price of $285. Great, so far so good.

So around 2 O'Clock i roll up to the store, go in, and proclaim that i was the one on the phone a few hours ago with the camaro. Mark greets me, and remembers the phone conversation. From there it went like this:

Mark: "ok, let me go take a look at it"
Me (also mark): "sure"
He comes back and says: "well i took a look, and i'm afraid that you don't have shocks in the front... they're struts"
Me: "i know"
Him: "oh... well you didn't mention that on the phone, the labor costs are different. Its gonna be $377 now"
Me (wondering why HE didn't look that up when i was on the phone): "... ok, so let me get this straight: It's going to be $377 for doing the brake rotors, pads, shocks AND struts, and springs?"
Him: "Oh you want springs too?"
Me: "...... yes"
Him: "well you didn't sa-"
Me (interupting): "I mentioned it twice over the phone :mad: "
Him: "...oh, sorry i didn't here that.. anyway, with springs as well it comes to $477"
Me: "fine!"

And then i left him the keys, signed a thingy, and walked home. Later that day i get a call, only i missed it, so i was really more of a message:
"Hey mark its mark from Pep Boys on Story Road. Hey, sorry buddy but we're pretty jammed at the moment and i'm not going to be able to get her finished until tomorrow."

............ :mad:

So i call him back, and decided to leave the car there overnight (hoping it won't get stolen), so they can finish it the next day. Luckily its a saturday so i have the choice of taking my dad's Audi, or my mom's Lancer to work. Naturally i chose the Lancer (wagons FTW!!!!!111). On the way home i was pretty happy, i had found a message on my phone from Pep Boys that said that my car was all set and good to go (i suppose like taco bell food). My dad drops me off, and i go in and pay. ... As i am walking to my car i start to think to myself "hmmm... i wonder if they remembered the springs..." and as i see it the answer reveals itself:

Apparently, as it turns out, the mechanic who worked on my car is a complete and utter brainless moron, and i know what he did. I know EXACTLY what he did! He took a look in the passenger seat, saw a bunch of boxes, and said "well then, lets get to work". Not realising that because i have a convertible that my trunk is fairly small, and that i had to put the shocks and brakes on the passenger seat because i could only fit the springs in said small trunk. Thus he completely forgot them... along with his Zippo (which i kept :naughty: ), and sure enough when i opened the trunk, there was the box, exactly how i left it, completely untouched. :rant:

I then found the manager, and the conversation went like this:
Me: "Hey... so you installed my brakes, shocks and springs right?"
Him: ".. Yea (probably thinking i'm a moron for asking this again)"
Me: "Oh, ok, well then maybe you can explain why my box of springs is still in my trunk completely untouched?"
Him "..... uh.....?"

So i showed him, and he was pretty embarressed (he ought to be!), and apologized. Naturally they're going to install them and realign the car for free.. but now i've got to wait for next thursday... again....

he probably heard what all you said just acted like he didnt so when you got all the way up there he could be like "oh ok well now the price is going to be x..." just to get more money. i try to be as careful as possible when i need to go to car shops.

you paid 500 dollars for that, sounds like your the moron.
brake pads and rotors are too easy to be paying that much for installation,

thats like paying someone 25 dollars to tie your shoes cuz your lazy

i guess not everyone knows about their cars and i dont expect them to, but when you say you were going to do it you obviously know how, and if not., you are on a message board that can teach you about anything you need to know.
waste of money.

yeah, i can change all that on my car except the front shocks and springs with a hammer, some ratchets and my stock scissor jack, and trust me, i did, well minus the springs, i wish somebody would have paid me $470 to do it :(

i guess not everyone knows about their cars and i dont expect them to, but when you say you were going to do it you obviously know how, and if not., you are on a message board that can teach you about anything you need to know.

I would rather spend more money to get something done NOW than spend less money later, or do it myself (taking 269734957 hours and a lot of swearing). But i'm waiting till thursday now anyway so i guess it would have made no difference in the end...

Thats not lazy, thats impatience. And impatience is not something I would want to have modding a car. Especially going to Pep Boys, that is just BLATANT impatience. I wouldn't trust a Pep Boys mechanic to start a lawnmower correctly, they'd probably break the starter cord. I would seriously try to find another mechanic to be working on your car. Your impatience has cost you too much money, and too much time for simple parts.

pep boys.... they arent even mechanics, my friend got a job there when he was a senior in high school, no certifications.

and for pep boys to charge that much, i think they saw you coming...


so you paid $477 dollars to have something installed on your car, ok.
if you werent so damn lazy, you could have used that $477 dollars worth of labor which you could have done yourself for $0, and further modded your camaro.
Yeah, doing it yourself would have taken time, alot of sweating, swearing, frustration, but you also get a sense of pride when you just finsihed the project, damn i did that myself, & saved a pot load.

& for pep boys to f' up like that, i would have went in there and demanded my car to be finished w/ a partial refund.. they already made enough off you.
Obviously they wont refund you all the money but you gotta stand up for yourself when your being ripped off by a mechanic / front desk guy.

yah theres a bunch of businesses with shady practices. watchin the news one time people go in for an oil change or whatever and they send the car back to the customer without even touching it.

nobody but me has touched my car yet, and if for some reason i felt it too hard or didnt have the time id probably go to my friends shop

To be honest, it would have cost just as much (or more) to have installed anywhere else, plus a lot of places won't install customer parts (around here anyway). And as for doing it myself: I think you're all confusing me with a mechanic. See a mechanic can fix things on cars and such... it took me a whole afternoon of swearing just to put in the stupid CAI.... and most people concider that a synch. Even though i know how to do my brakes, i never actually have (kinda like i know how to drive a stick, but i never do) so i was not about to potentially **** up the most important part of my car just to save a few stupid dollars. Besides if I **** up then its my fault... if they **** up then i can always sue.

yeah, the biggest thing about the brakes is to torque the caliper bolts back on, learned that one the hard way... and you cant do your front springs/shocks yourself unless you have a spring compressor unless you have a death wish, i can see you taking it in for the front springs/shocks and alignment, but anything other than that would have taken you less time than them, and you better be asking for some money back because you didnt **** up, well you did by going there, they ****ed up worse by not paying a damn bit of attention to what you really wanted

auto zone rents spring compressors for free.
