No, what takes away from the badassness of the guitar solos is the lack of badassness. The songs are great songs, although terribly played out and overrated. Its so easy for someone to list those songs as great guitar songs, because so many people have said the same. It requires no actual knowledge of music, just agreeance.

Knowing a bit about music and guitar, I can easily say that those two songs don't have amazing solos. Like I said, Jason Becker FTW.

Master of Puppets - Kirk Hammet

The BEST solo I have ever heard was done by a friend of mine in a local band. It was a bass solo, but sickests you ever heard. He now plays for Dry Kill Logic.

true but most people don't know jack **** about music so if it sounds good to them its awesome. on the other hand musicians have a different perspective. you can make an arpeggio sound cool but to me that shows lack of talent.

I agree with your first two sentences. However, the last depends entirely on the instrument. Sweeping an arpeggio on a guitar clearly shows talent, which is why my "favorite solo's" are from mostly neoclassical guitarists.

Well honestly i really could care less. Have you seen the DVD The Song Remains the Same? When it shows Page play that solo live, its incredible. He's on a double necked guitar, ones a 12 string and the other is a six. He plays both and switches between the two extremely fluently. to jimmy page.

big stevie ray vaughan fan checking in, he did a cool version of voodoo chile (sp?)

I have his box set and it is loaded with live stuff where he really gets down. There is one acoustic solo where he is ripping up this acoustic on from what I understand is an MTV unplugged though I never knew he did an unplugged.

Stevie Ray Vauhan was the man,Pride and Joy and Voodoo child off the Live in Austin was awesome! Two of my favorite songs but IMO the best versions I've ever herd from him.

Also Cliffs of Dover (Eric Johnson? I dont remember) but the entire song is one amazing solo!

There's plenty of great guitar solo performances out there. Many of equal displays of talent, emotion, and sound. So, I'll pick a guitarist I prefer above all others... Slash. Eddie Van Halen is right up there, along with many others.
