    Re: Favorite Guitar Solo?

Another big Page fan here, so I'll go with the somewhat cliche, it seems, choice Stairway to Heaven...for new guitarists the guys from Shadows Fall have some amazing solos though obviously not comparable to Hammett, Stevie Ray, or most others mentioned here...also, Dream Theater's solo in As I Am is pretty cool in a show-boaty kind of way...

That was exactly what I was talking about. That solo is a lot more than some arepeggio, and the solo itself added about 3 1/2 minutes to the song.

So many guitarist to choose from! Jason Becker, Neil Zaza, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, and countless others...

I'd have to say my favorite Guitar solo (for today) would be Paul Gilbert's "Scarified"

          Scarified video

Too many to have a single favorite of all time...

Yeah One is an amazing song, though I think my personal fav may be Fade to Black. I saw them live a few years ago and its still the greatest show I've ever been to. Little off topic, sorry :)

Jimi Hendrix "Star Spangled Banner"? :hmm:

One time, a buddy of mine found that on a jukebox in some place. We piled in the money for it to play like 20 times back to back. We stayed until like the third rendition, when the other patrons were starting to look a little annoyed.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

                            AAHHH!! capital W-T-F!?!?!

they ended at the orgasmic solo!!!! nothing! they just stopped! you cant play a song in concert if you cant play the friggin solo! even the guys from story of the year, a punk band, play the whole song thru. they played enter sandman in concert once. i was like, "ok dude, you're punk, i like ur music but you're way outta your league with this one..." and the guy absolutely nailed the whole song. Korn really screwed up with that one...

btw... this is teh link for that classical gas song i posted about:
                            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evsW3WKzflY

the guy does a decent job with it. doesnt nail it tho. my bad, the song was NOT written by clapton. it was written by one Mason Williams.

Yeah I agree that KoRn's "One" really sucked, Fieldy just ruined it for me with all that slap bass in a song that isn't meant to have slap bass....and then to add insult to injury, they stopped before the solo...argh, well at least it was better than their cover of Another Brick in The Wall....

                                Ahhh... Easy on Korn.

I loved BOTH of those covers. The "One" cover was just amazing... But then again Korn is one of my all time favorite bands. I think the mixture of Metallica and Korn in "One: was ****ing awesome.

But I think my all time favorite Solo must be in "To Live Is To Die" by Metallica on "And Justice for all"
