Yeah, you are very right. Historically we aren't big on using AC's or pulling such a large load, so we have a lot of small transformers, wires and ratio's out there. The transmission system is up to snuff and can handle the load because we produce plenty of power. But when we all start kicking on those AC's, we start popping those tiny transformers out on the poles left and right, not to mention burning and melting up the small conductor.

Im guessing your distribution system is fairly new to keep up with the loads in an area that uses AC prob much of the time. Not to mention it probably gets wiped out and re-built every couple of years :p. Then all our contractors leave us hanging to go soak up the money to be made in Florida.
It was the same here, we had all sorts of rolling blackouts because of the powerstrain. 10 days in a row of 90+ heat (which is actually unusual for here), and 125 people died. The good news is that now its 80*, sunny, and beautiful... so maybe you can lookforward to that in another weeks time :)

Oh and as for being pathetic, i think the bay area has EVERYBODY completely trumped. We b!tch and moan if its too hot OR to cold

yup and if you sweated a lot don't forget to drink gatorade or powerade cuz they have electrolytes (sp) ...when you sweat you lose more than water so drinking just water might make you weak/dizzy ........ :)

Haha, you're dead on with that one. The claim was it will cost too much to keep the buildings cool and it will aid the power company in conserving power. I guess that wasn't a good enough excuse because they worked anyway.
