  • I'm so sick of gas stations price gouging.

I drove by this gas station last night at 10pm and the price was $2.97/gal.
I just drove by it again earlier and the price is up to $3.18/gal. I just looked for some news online and found out that its because of a hurricane that is not even a real threat. It seems like gas stations are using any possible little excuses to get more money out of us its ridiculous. What do you guys think?

      best part is...

they have the slightest reason to go up they do it. But it will take a few days for the price to go back down.

Thank you. Just pull up to the pump, fill your tank, pay the outrageous price, and shut up. Can't do anything about it, and I can't blame anyone but ourselves for this fiasco.

You know I just gased up my wife Santa Fe last night 17 gal. (full tank) cost me $57.00. That's almost $60.00.

I think it was 1972 since the last refinery. It takes about 20 years or so to actually complete one. Too many politicians siding with the Environmentalist on this that's why we haven't built one. Plus the EPA kills it all together.

I was listening to this radio and scientist say that we can actually support ourselves when it comes to oil. We have a lot in Alaska, off the coast of California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, some parts in Florida and somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico.

We can be like Venezula and supply ourselves with oil and be independant. With all the environmentalist, Al Gore screaming bloody mary, politicians, and such it's not going to happen.

*****ing about it actually helps though. My state actually fines and shuts down gas stations if theres any proof that they are price gouging.

ok, first off, it didnt take 20 years to build the effing hoover dam. it doesnt take 20 years to build a refinery... thats bs.

the reason we havent built one in 30 odd years is cuz the EPA a while back said that basically all NEW refineries have to conform to such and such rediculously high environmental standards. the oil companies know that the politicians wont change the laws cuz they'll be labeled as anti-environment and wont get another term. so they just hide behind those laws saying that they cant build another refinery because it would be cost prohibitive due to teh restrictions. thats why we're getting so screwed over.

and guys, wake up. you live in a democracy. b!tching is how you change things. if you just accept it, you are doing nothing. the more you complain (especially to lawmakers and w/e) the faster things change. the best way to get back right now is to complain to get laws changed, and reduce the amount of gas you use via carpool or organizing your trips or whatever it takes. if more people did that, gas prices would go down due to competition cuz of lower demand, and then politicians would start finding ways to force the oil companies to lower prices. its not really the gas stations that are gouging as much as it is the big oil companies. theres a reason why Exxon-Mobil \ holds the record for #1 and #2 greatest profit increases from quarter to quarter in all of history!

oil companies don't set the price, stock market via supply & demand does.

The gas stations themselves do not set the prices up. Gas is usually priced a few cents over what they pay for per gallon. A few being under 10 cents. A lot of the times they actually lose money on the gas. They just have gas to get people in their store to buy stuff.

                            1. *****ing about oil prices does nothing
                            2. I hope the lawmakers stay the hell out of this mess
                            3. Oil prices are set by the stock market. IF we are ever to have prices go down, we need to demand less. As long as our consumption supports the price, the price will never fall. People refusing to sell their Hummers and Vipers will keep the prices up. *****ing will do NOTHING. Just Accepting it will do nothing. Conserving fuel is the only choice.

alright, i'll elaborate then. by complaining i'm also somewhat implying that people do gotta do something... i dont mean to literally just sit at a computer and complain. i mean like actively complain: reduce gas usage, and complain to law makers (thats the best way to kill the price gouging, by getting them in trouble w/ the feds).
flex fuel is the first step in the right direction. we just need more proliferation of stuff like E85 and the prices will go down. who knows... maybe if the stuff gets popular enuf we can take the subsidy money from the farmers and put it towards alternative fuels and fuel cells and such.

ok ok fine 3.4... democratic republic :p

and oil companies DO set the prices at their gas stations. literally, the owners get phone calls every day from their suppliers who tell them what to charge for gas. i dont know if they have to follow it exactly but yes the oil companies can control that price to some extent.

besides, if everyone complains that gas is too expensive and over-valued, eventually that market bubble will pop and prices will plummet. remember the dot-com bubble back in 2000? once the stockers realize they're paying too much for something that isnt worth it, the price should drop.
