  • Metallica, what happened to you???

Dunno if anybody's heard it, but here's a vid of Metallica's new song...I must say ummm, how to say this nicely...it sucks. No riffs stand out, James singing has really gone downhill, and the solo while technically pretty impressive doesn't sound that musical, more just like cramming in as many notes as possible in a short amount of time...well suppose I'm biased, I've only liked two of their songs since Load came out, but I just wanted to see what ya'll think...again, just my opinion...the bass f-up at the beginning is kind of funny though...

Its because James sobered up, and the band got too entangled with the business aspect of the rock and roll scene. I like everything up to the reload album, but even after the black album it really started changing dramatically. Metallica will never be the same, hard to do what you did in the mid 80's when the music itself changed too much in general. But they will always be a top 5 in my book.

Yeah I know all about the reasons for it, I'm just in mourning... Their first five albums are absoutely amazing, and now this...alas. Even Lars can't take away my copy of Master of Puppets..though he'll prolly try...

Metallica used to be and will always be one of my most favorite bands,Kirk Hammett and Angus Young were the two reasons I picked up the guitar in the first place about 9 years ago (I realize AY isnt 'tallica but ya'll know what I mean) . Like a late relative,I remember and love metallica for Load and everything before it. They have gone down hill but I'd still go to see em if I had the chance.

i dont even consider tehm the same band. in my mind, metallica broke up after Load. that was the last CD i liked from them. Reload would be like the "forgotten" metallica songs. i just act like st. anger never came out. that was such a disgrace of a cd. the guys just decided they wanted to stay popular in music, but rather than do what they did best in a new way, they turned way too pop. i think they just got greedy after teh black album sold a bajillion copies.

cramming in as many notes as you cain in the shortest amount of time is what 90% of ...And Justice for All was. This sounds better than St. ANger....hell, my playing sounds better than St. Anger. YEs, the bands sound has eveolved, especially w/the black album. Some say they have amtured, others that they caint rock as hard & are starting to lay back/off. Whatever, you're not in the band, and cain decide/let them know what you feel by buying/not buying there product, and posting on forums which may/may not even be read by the band mbrs/mgmt.

btw, James looks freekin old w/that goatee (yeah, I know he is but still.......)

I recall reading a while back that James blew out his vocal cords. since then, he just can't sing like he used to.

Even Load was more of a pile to me. The Black Album was the last of their albums that grabbed me. With Fuel and I Disappear being songs of exception.

Their sound is much more full sounding now. Probably because the new bassist uses his finger and not a pussy pick. Jason was great but picked bass drives me nuts. Not the same but its a step in the right direction from St. Anger.

His vocals were the least of the bands problems.

Re: Metallica, what happened to you???

Metallica was only the band that got me heavly into playing gutiar.

THe only album i dont like by them is st.anger and is the only one i dont own as well. I loved S&M and garage INC.

ST. Anger= WTF?? no guitar soloes, ****ty rifts, bad lryics, and can i repeate no guitar solos!!!!!

As for that song, that was acutlly pretty sweet. The solo/the rift after sounded HEAVLY and fast like old metallica. I miss those crazy solos!

I agree i dislike picking on bass myself, finger picking sounds so much better.
