That stuff about making the age to get a permit/license higher is bs. It doesn't matter when you start, you're still going to be a bad driver. You might as well learn earlier rather than later, when you actually NEED a car. This happened to a friend of mine: he didn't get his license til he was about 17 or 18 I think, and he was a bad driver when he started. I was afraid to ride in the car with him.

michigan starts early... got my permit at 14 and 6 months, drive w/ a parent till 16, restricted till 17, then open game. hard to believe that was only 2 and a half years ago...

NY may be bad, but its not THAT bad. Here is how it goes in NY...

16 years old, you can get your permit. You must drive for either 6 months or 20 hours (with a parent's signature, ha) until you can go for your license. This license is a restricted license, cannot drive between 9PM and 6AM unless it is for school or work. This lasts until age 18, or 17 if you took driver's ed and got a signed form.

And this is probably all thanks to the Big Apple.

In North Dakota you can get your permit at 14.5 and get your liscense at 15. Of course my parents didn't let me get my liscense until a year after I got my permit. But I was still younger then most.
