  • Would you guys watch a Mel Gibson movie?

I saw a trailer for his up coming movie "Apocalypto" and it looks pretty good. It's set 600 years ago during the Mayan culture. The dialect is traditional Mayan, which I like. This movie sort of reminds me of Braveheart in a way.

As far as his drunken tirade and his anti-semantic comments it still doesn't change my perspective on him. The guy donate millions of dollars to his own establish charities and to others and not claim tax on them.

As far as I know before this incident, he has gotten thousands of letters that accused him of being anti-semite since he made that Passion movie. He was going to make the Holocaust series for Disney just to prove he's not but this happened.

Since he hasn't had a drink for a very long time I think his binge drinking lowered his inhibition and his frustration towards the Jews got expressed. Unfortunately he expressed it to a Jewish cop. I used to have a lot of friends that say and do stupid stuff when they're drunk so I don't see this as anything different.

No matter how hard it is for us to realize, celebraties are humans to. How many other people were pulled over for drunk driving the same night he was? How many of those people didn't make CNN for getting that DUI?

Wow....... being drunk is not an excuse for saying anti-semantic things, plain and simple. I wish I could get drunk and not be responsible for what I do or say. Do I believe he is a bad person? No. Do I think he is an *******? Yes.

          c) he's an actor. Who the F- cares? If the trailer looks good, I might rent the movie. I could give a crap what he does or does not believe in and/or do. Why is everyone so fixated on hollywood anyway?

Traditional mayan? ... uh... they were all but gone before the spanish even got there, so how the hell would anyone know what "traditional mayan" is? Thats like saying "oh i just loved how they used a traditional latin dialect in Gladiator." :bs:

As for mel... well i couldn't give a rats a$$ about what he says, so whatev. And quite frankly I don't even get why everyone is getting all antsy about his personal views anyway, because lets face it: they're his personal views.

... and as for the Passion... well i didn't get all upset about how he made the English out to be a bunch of evil a$$holes in Braveheart. Get over it.

Actually, not just there. Also in Gallipoli and the Patriot. He rewrote history big time in those movies. In Gallipoli, he changed over a general who callously sent his troops to be slaughtered three times from Austrailian (the fact) to English. In The Patriot he took atrocities the Nazis did (kill civilians in cold blood, lock people in a church and set it on fire) and transferred them to the English in the Revolutionary War. Needless to say, the English have never even been acused of doing anything at all like that in the Revolution. He's been accused of similar stuff in Braveheart, but it's not as blatant.

Powerful lot of hate in that man. And an equally powerful disdain for the truth when making movies about those he dislikes.

Traditional Mayan dialect is obscure now. Mix with everything else. You'll find them in some parts in Belize and at the very southern part of Mexico. The civilization was wiped out but not the people. They were taken in as slave by the Aztec and later on by the Spanaird. Some escaped to start their own very small civilization but it became low key.

It's going to be interesting how they could bring back that pure Mayan dialect. I know a proffesor of mine back then who's been studying that for years.

As far as the Patriot, Braveheart that's all fiction. The Patriot is totally fiction. But Braveheart is somewhat fiction because people told legends that got exagerated in time. Nobody wrote anything down back then so it become a folklore. So you'll find a lot of contradiction.

Galipoli is more factual about the soldiers running to towards the enemies barrack which was only a couple of yards away and all those men being shot to death before they even reach it. The character that he played is fiction.

I admire Mel Gibson because there's a plague of him in this center that he is funding to help out troubled youth. I think he's entitled to vent against the Jews because of what they are calling him. He was going to make a Holocaust series just to please them. Unfortunately it took an alcohol to do that and to vent to a Jewish cop.

Yeah, I know what's the big deal about this--we're just shooting the breeze. So don't take it seriously. Just like when we talk about cars. Nobody care but us.

We all do and say stupid things when we are drunk and don't mean it. I bet if it was anyone else other then Mel Gibson we wouldn't had heard a peep about it.

Doesn't mean that we can't be held accountable for it. I like how alot of people have this mentality of "oh... i was drunk".

Re: Would you guys watch a Mel Gibson movie?

His movies involve many more people than just him. And those people deserve the chance to succeed with their efforts in any given project. This goes for the screenwriter, the gaffer, assistant director, and so forth. They all will have worked hard on a film, and their efforts should not be tarnished by anyone's opinion of one particular participant. Be it Mel Gibson, Madonna, or whoever you have a beef with. Many of those involved had nothing to do with casting decisions and shouldn't feel the backlash. If the movie looks good, go see it for what it is... entertainment. Your ticket purchase will be a reward for many, many of the people behind the scenes who have so much wrapped up in a movie.

If its in Mayan and subtitled in english then no way.
If I wanted to read a story, I would get a book and not pay $10 to do so.
