  • Thoughts on the 5th gen Camaro

I, for one, think it looks bada$$. I don't understand why I see so many comments (in various places) about it being ugly. Did the 4th gen get so many bad comments? For every positive comment I see it seems like I see at least one negative one, but perhaps that's just Ford fans being ****s. I don't really think anyone can argue that a 4th gen Camaro is ugly...does anyone who remembers when the 4th gen was introduced care to comment? I was like 9 years old so I can't really say what people thought about it at first.

It's great news hearing that it will officially be in production, I just hope it doesn't go in the direction of the T-Bird, or even the GTO, which hasn't sold well. What are everyone's thoughts on the long-term viability of this car?

i hope it does sell well. maybe gm will see this and say.. hey lets make a ****ing firebird again. it'll come out be twice as sexy(as always, you cant deny it camero owners :p) and we will have our beloved cars back. but thats in a perfect world :(

in reality. gm had better hope this goes well. they cant afford for another failure anytime soon. (like the gto, even though i love them) this is their chance to put a huge dent into ford and DC's profits in the sports car/muscle car market. i hope to god it stays affordable. if not it will sink, die, and be in the grave yard again.

at first i was hoping for a future evolution design but when i saw this for the first time (leaked pics) the word bad *** came to my mind. i think the car is very unique and when you have something like that your going to have a lot of people that love it or hate it and not too many that are going to say " its decent, or ok, or so so" if they keep this design that its going to be much more imposing then the ford. and its also amazing how a huge v8 tons of hp and a loud rumble can change peoples oppion of not liking this car. just what till it comes out i beat a lot of thoose oppions will change.

lets keep in mind here. the success of this car will soley rely on the v6 model. looks are one thing, but the base model will have to perform very well in every aspect to keep this thing afloat. bob lutz has said that they are looking to sell about 100k camaros a year IIRC and most of them will be base models. i just want some damn engine specs on it!

i think it'd be sweet to have like a base model 3800, an RS model w/ a 3800 s/c or maybe that ls4 v-8 they're putting in the bonnevilles. maybe a northstar? just something pushing around 300hp and then the z28/ss model w/ the LS2. that would be pretty cool... then there wouldnt be such a power gap in the models. i think it'd be kinda goofy, you could have a nearly underpowered version, or a rediculously overpowered one. a good midpoint balance might make it sell better...

To be honest with you, I've got quite a list of close people I know that don't like the look of the pre 98 4th gens, either model. That is including myself. I'm not exagerating to prove a point either, its the truth. The only ones that I like are the W68's and T/A's and maaaybe the RS's. The rest are, bleh.

Yes I know vanbibber, this is comming from the guy with the "ugly" cavy, so what the hell do I know about taste?! :p

So yeah, I guess its not that unbelievable that people don't like the new Camaro. I like it :). My Dad likes it but hates the new Challenger, and "everyone" loves that too...

If you're refering to the look department, it really isn't my cup of tea. I'm not a retro fan in anyway at all.

I just wish they stopped following Ford Mustang's lead and go on there on. The demise to the 4th gen. downfall was not because of poor sales but because GM was trying to out sell the Ford Mustang. It's never going to happen because the Stang has a huge loyal followers. I don't see this one will do it either.

It's sad that the Firebird got replaced by the GTO. GM was totally wrong about this because the '05 GTO only sold less 11,000 that year and projected to be a lot less this year. Where the Firebird was actually #2 Pontiac's top seller. I remember one salesman telling me that they couldn't keep the Firebird in the lot because it was selling fast.

It was the first car of its kind. It started a whole new breed of cars. Thats why it has so many followers.

I thought the entire reason they stopped making the Camaro and Firebird was because of poor sales...

If they re-design the goat to something more aggressive looking, and put the same time, effort and quality into the new one as the 04-06 Goat, you will be pleased they canned the bird. Hopefully the Camaro is built this well.

Sometimes we forget the goat was supposed to be a low production car in the first place...

I've read recently that they may bring back the Firebird instead of the GTO. Many designers of the next gen platform are hinting that they would rather design an all new Firebird than a GTO. Also, with the official news of the camaro, I think there will be a strong outcry for the firebird. I personally think the GTO is out of the picture. Hello Firebird! :)
