Girlfriend started smoking again!

My girlfriend quit smoking two years ago and she did't even want to be around them anymore, she was discusted by the smell cause of what it reminded her of. So when I started dating her a year ago, she was a non smoker. A few weeks ago her 'best friend' gave her 'just one' and since then every once in a while she has one, even when she's sober. I'm not sure if I can deal with this, I hate it when she smokes because I know its not social smoking, she feels the need to have a cigarette. should I make a big deal about it? she hates when I bring the subject up. Any ideas about how I should go about this?

you need to explain to her that it's intolerable. If it comes down to it, leave her. thats a habit that is financially, physically, and socially harmful to you.

when you discuss it, dont be the bad guy. you gotta be on her side. otherwise you'll be giving her the choice you vs. cigs. i know firsthand how addicting the crap is. i smoked for 2 years, switched to chew a year ago, and i'm still battling the stuff. its pure evil. just try to help her to deal with it. if you try to put it as you vs. cigs, bad stuff will happen. its gotta be something she WANTS to do for herself. making her pick is just a bad situation waiting to get worse...

My best advice. Make a nice dinner, sit her down, and talk. Tell her how you feel, dont get onto her case about it, just explain your side, let her tell hers. Either she'll stop smoking, or you will live with it, or you wont have a girlfriend. Best thing in a relationship is communication.

Wow, calm down, have a cig...LOL. Physically, I am healthier than you, and I smoke a pack a day. Financially, I am not hurting from smoking, I am hurting from other things. Socially, this is my only problem, and it is with my relationship, thats about it.

physically, you are deteriorating, believe it or not is your will. Financially it is an expensive habit.

i know from personal experiance that i just felt horrible as a smoker. i quit it so i could play hockey again. actually, i just switched to chew. that was an even more stupid move cuz 1, its even more disgusting than smoking ever was and 2, my mouth is taking the beating of its life.

heard smoking can cause your body to absorb less of the vitamins and minerals it naturally makes every day along with what you eat but i still occasionally smoke them

i smoke. love every damn second of it too. healthy? no. but it keeps me from going postal everyday and thats good enough reason for me to keep at it.

ive tried quitting, and i cant. everyone has their vices and quite a few of us its cigs/etc. from the way people talk about smoking you'd think we were talking about crystal meth or crack. i can think of a million things that are worse than smoking cigs or dipping.

smoking isnt expensive as long as you moderate your habit. some days i can go 1/2 pack then theres days where im not in a good mood and it can be a 2 pack day. so for me my mood determines how much i smoke.

i started smoking in 6th grade, a cig or two a day.
7th grade was a bit more than that, maybe 5 a day.
i quit in 8th grade.
9th grade i started like 5 a day again.
10th grade i started a pack a day, it grew to a pack and a half a day. i realized i was going broke, and i needed to stop, so i started rolling my cigarettes. when you roll, the cigarettes are shorter, and there is much less tobacco in them. the tobacco has less of the chemicals, and its harder to chain smoke because you have to take the time to roll them. unfortunately i got good at rolling, and smoked even more.
from the day i left italy, i didnt smoke a single cigarette. went back the summer after 11th, and smoked 2 packs a day from the time i got off the plane to the day i got back on the plane to come back to america. then for about a year, i didnt smoke a single cig. then i started working at a gas station/in the garage, and i would be alone for 8 hours sometimes, with nothing to do and stacks of cigs, i started again. it is VERY expensive and it causes stress for me.

when you smoke, you are worried about smelling like it. you are worried about where you can and cant smoke. you are worried about smoking in cars, etc. overall its stressful. if she started, theres a reason! talk to her about it. if shes doing it because she needs something to do when shes bored, see if theres another option!

Yeah, Im lost with the attitude towards smokers. I don't know where everyone is getting it. I think some of you pretend that smoking is the WORST thing out there. Like Bibby said, you could have a meth habit that is costing you $1000 a week, or a coke habit that tears your sinuses apart, or an alky habit that changes you so rapidly that the people around you don't know what to say or do for fear of getting beat. There are so many more habits that are FAR more worrisome than smoking cigs.

BLLDOGG, I honestly can't agree with LEAVING her because of smoking. I think its a little drastic. If you don't want her to smoke, then try encouraging her to quit. Giving her options is good, but you have to be flexible too.

Ok this is what u do. u take her cigs when she isnt looking and throw them out. then when she asks where they are u tell her its my way or the highway homegirl
