This is a pointless discussion, you can never convince someone who smokes that it is really that bad for everyone and you cant convince someone who doesn't that it is not.

Ok, I can understand that point. I will let you read the facts as you may and make your own assessment. But my point still stands, don't like the smoke, leave. Quit trying to push smoking out of public places. We have restaurants around here suffering hard because of the no-smoking ban placed in Indianapolis's restaurants. Economically it is better to have the smokers in there, they always have been before. And don't say that it will hurt business by driving out the non-smokers, you non-smokers always had the other halfs of the restaurants to breathe in fresh air, and you only started complaining within the last 7 years. As for bars, to hell with anyone that thinks BARS should be non-smoking. If you non-smokers don't like the smoke at a BAR, take your healthy *** to Applebee's and drink and breathe fresh air all you want. Leave the adult people bars to.....the adults with a little tolerance.

        Re: Girlfriend started smoking again!

at least in this state, businesses had the choice of putting in separate vent systems for the smoking and non-smoking side. most chose to go all non. I did not chose that rule and didn't make the decisions for the businesses. I agree about the bar thing, I think if you don't want to be around the smoke in a [B]bar[B], you should be in that environment anyways.

the way i see it is it's bad if your completely by yourself killing over a pack a day, then its pretty bad for your lungs in the long run and can be expensive. i smoke occasionaly, i smoked four earlier tonight but i can go w/o them unless something really gets to me. then i smoke them or even something else......point is people ***** and moan about one cigarette and its odor out in public when there's stuff out there that has a worse odor, such as a dumpster, filthy trash can, a bad exhaust, ect. ect. ect.....i dont think smoking cigarettes will ever go away

            Jsut browsed the thread....

tell her to quit... If she doesn't tell her you get to do anal whenever. And if she *****es just say, "Your smoking kills me and you a little bit everyday just to give you a little pleasure, me F'ing you in the *** doesn't kill either of us, and if gives me tons of pleasure."

And if she says "thats disgusting" say so is having to kiss a ashtray.

you can't lose with that argument.

                Re: Girlfriend started smoking again!

You should confront her about it and tell her that her smoking is not something you can handle. Make the point tactfully, but don't sound like a pussy. Draw the line now: if you don't, then she will draw it beyond where you want it.

I have asthma that's worse sometimes than others, however, if someone is smoking in the room there's about a 90% chance I'll have an attack unless I get out of there. The very least I get from second-hand smoke is a splitting headache.

My girlfriend smokes occasionally, like maybe a cig a day for a couple of weeks (she smokes a pack to diet) then won't smoke for months. Just that one cigarrette every now and then really makes me uncomfortable. I have to leave the room more often than not. I don't really mind her smoking once in awhile. She doesn't do it often enough to really piss me off, and she always asks if she can.

I just hate it when people feel like they're entitled to smoke around you and don't even have the courtesy of asking "do you mind if I smoke?" Smokers get more breaks at work than anyone else. My gf told me how her mom used to always smoke in the car, windows rolled up, even if she pleaded with her not to.

A steady smoker is not someone I can live with. As for the diet smoking, I told her to quit, but only because I'm afraid she'll get addicted. She swears she hates the taste of them. I don't understand how a cig can make you less hungry. Anyone care to comment?

Its so sad when a pretty babe is smoking. Good luck getting her to quit, most if not all girls are very hard headed. Tell her to quit for you, if she wont quit for her self. And if she does leave you, dont worry, There are lots more of them. lol

my mom hates the taste but that doesn't mean she isn't addicted. her telling you that she hates the taste to comfort your worries is only letting her slip by you. you need to put your foot down my friend.

I highly doubt there will be filthy trash cans, bad exhausts, and dumpsters in a restaurant. If you go into a restaurant with people that smoke, the smell stays on your shirt, clothing, and skin. It's rather unattractive when you are done with your meal. You feel dirty and your skin feels violated (kidding on the violated part).

And as far as hurting the economy of restaurants. How many people are going to not go to a restaurant because they can't smoke? Most will just take one before they get there, and after thier meal, or maybe while they are waiting for their food. I think that is kinda BS.

So when I started dating her a year ago, she was a non smoker. A few weeks ago her 'best friend' gave her 'just one' and since then every once in a while she has one, even when she's sober. I'm not sure if I can deal with this, I hate it when she smokes because I know its not social smoking, she feels the need to have a cigarette. should I make a big deal about it? she hates when I bring the subject up. Any ideas about how I should go about this?
                        Enough with the hijacking.

I get the feeling that she was trying to keep it from you and wasn't being 100000% honest. With my girlfriend smoking, it her her dishonesty that hurt me more than the fact that she smoked in the first place. I work at a gym, don't drink cokes, don't eat fast food, and take good care of myself so it was naturally a turn off for me when I found out she smoked. That is not something I can personally handle in a relationship, even though we have been dating for 3 years. If she would have continued the smoking, I am afraid I would have broke up with her. It isn't somthing that I want to do, but something I have to do to keep the lifestyle I want for myself and protentially future family. This decision basically comes down to what you believe and stand for in life. Some might put up with it, but I for one wouldn't. And just wondering, was she completely honest about smoking, or did you kinda have to catch her?

                        I hope I helped,

I for one stay away from restaurants that have banned smoking. I will eat at a bar, or not leave Speedway when I eat out (Indianapolis city and county laws do not apply to the towns of Speedway, Beech Grove, or Lawrence, three towns within the city limits of Indianapolis). Where I live, which is Speedway, there are still sections in the restaurants where smoking is allowed. Most of these restaurants are laid out where the smoking section and non-smoking section is seperated by the kitchen, similar to most of the Denny's I have gone to.

I know I am not the only one, because most of my co-workers also share the same sentiment. We no longer eat out anymore because of the no-smoking policies within city and county limits. My friends outside of work no longer eat at the establishments because of the no smoking ban. It has hurt the service food industry so bad on the west side of Indy that 4 restaurants have closed their doors since March 1st ( the day the no-smoking ban went into effect), and there is a planned 10 more before March 1st of 2007. Some might say it was the neighborhood that did it, but if you looked at the demographics of the area, most of the people in those areas where the restaurant closings have occured was in areas where the population was smoking.

The thing is, some of us smokers should have the same rights as everyone else. No fair that you have kicked us out of the restaurants because of a lifestyle you wish to have. Restaurants and bars were a place where us smokers could kick back, have a drink, eat something, and have a smoke, without harassment. But you people with your no-smoking fad have killed it for us smokers. I guess we don't spend the same money you do, or enjoy the same things you do. Guess I can't complain about something I can't change, but there might be something you non-smokers could do for me, quit looking down your noses at us smokers. Your health, body, mind, financial situation isn't any better or worse than ours. You're not better than us, quit acting like it.

I know a share of people who smoke before and after their meal. Also, it would be hard to prove that 100% of the reason some buisness close down is because of smoking laws. You said the doors shut the day the ban was put into place, there sounds like there was some issues before the ban was put into place.

I agree, however, that smokers should have the same rights as non-smokers. I just believe there should be a better way of seperating (and some food stops do a damn good job of this) smokers and non-smokers.

I never said on the day, never. Reread what I said. I said SINCE March 1st, which was THE DAY the non-smoking in restaurants went into effect.

These restaraunts include a Lone Star, Hooters, Red Lobster, and an Olive Garden. These restaurants were THRIVING before the March 1st ban, couldn't get into these places on a Friday or Saturday night, but in the last 5 months, those 4 in particular have shut down. I will give you this much, these 4 restaurants are within 1000 yards of each other, but I know for a fact that the restaurants weren't bought out for developing opportunities and such. The crowds died down. They shut their doors. The bans are hurting every restaurant that had a smoking section, some have been able to endure, some have found the loopholes in the system, but some have closed.
