    Re: Girlfriend started smoking again!

theres quite a few restaraunts in my area that have had their business go down since also. in the city of centerville here, you cant smoke anywhere. they just did a report on the local news not too long ago about it and the people running the places all said that business is down since the smoking ban went into affect.

i work at a bar/grill type restaraunt. our business has gone up since that ban because we are just outside of the city of centerville. people have tried to get our owner to go no smoking and he told them to **** off. which is awesome. he's a smoker so he knows how others feel about being treated like lepors at places like applebees that dont allow smoking anymore.

current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

ehh... i think that the gov't needs to stay the hell outta smokers business. if the restaurant wants to be no smoking, then they can. if not, then they wont. i think the smart thing to do would be to have a closed off smoking section. put up a glass wall around it, have some fans to get some good ventilation through and that should be it. no need to shut the place down. just build it with the confict of interest in mind. but the idea that the gov't can pass down laws telling me what people can and cant do as far as this goes i think crosses the line. like i said b4... i havent felt the urge to harm anyone for smoke money, second hand smoke is only really a threat to people who are constantly exposed to it, and financially and medically, people can preach all they want but when it comes down to it, its our bodies and we can do with them what we want. we wont follow you around blowing smoke in your face... if you dont like it, then dont stick around. its the same inconvience you want to pass on us so dont complain. slowly but surely, smoking will phase itself out with each generation but in the meantime, its something you gotta live with.
its funny cuz the people who are all about "pro-choice" want to tell us what we can an cant do with something that is undisputably our own body. but when it comes to a future person being (rather brutally) killed, well then thats different... thats your own choice. wtf? the gov't needs to stop controlling people so damn much. i have to go to the city to get a permit to build a TOOLSHED for my mom in her back yard!? apparently there has to be some sort of fire code? its a TOOL SHED! i dont care how i make it, if theres a fire, the things gonna blow up anyways! theres only like 5 gallons of gas sitting in there...

Where I live, which is Speedway, there are still sections in the restaurants where smoking is allowed. Most of these restaurants are laid out where the smoking section and non-smoking section is seperated by the kitchen, similar to most of the Denny's I have gone to.

I know I am not the only one, because most of my co-workers also share the same sentiment. We no longer eat out anymore because of the no-smoking policies within city and county limits. My friends outside of work no longer eat at the establishments because of the no smoking ban. It has hurt the service food industry so bad on the west side of Indy that 4 restaurants have closed their doors since March 1st ( the day the no-smoking ban went into effect), and there is a planned 10 more before March 1st of 2007. Some might say it was the neighborhood that did it, but if you looked at the demographics of the area, most of the people in those areas where the restaurant closings have occured was in areas where the population was smoking.

The thing is, some of us smokers should have the same rights as everyone else. No fair that you have kicked us out of the restaurants because of a lifestyle you wish to have. Restaurants and bars were a place where us smokers could kick back, have a drink, eat something, and have a smoke, without harassment. But you people with your no-smoking fad have killed it for us smokers. I guess we don't spend the same money you do, or enjoy the same things you do. Guess I can't complain about something I can't change, but there might be something you non-smokers could do for me, quit looking down your noses at us smokers. Your health, body, mind, financial situation isn't any better or worse than ours. You're not better than us, quit acting like it.
So the short story of this is that these smokers are putting places out of business because they can't stand to go an hour without smoking? Uh, smoke before and after dinner, and Olive Garden would have survived. Long live the bread sticks!

I don't smoke, and can't for the life of me understand why government needs to tell restaurants how to do business. I like the separate areas places.

I dont get it, you can buy a tool shed and not have to get a permit,
but if you build your own tool shed, you have to get a permit.

^^ ??? i dunno whether your being sarcastic or serious or drunk, but w/e.
the permit is something like 35 bucks. not expensive but its the principal of the whole thing that ticks me off. they threatened to tear down a tree house my friend built because he didnt get a permit to build. he just kinda stalled and b!tched and complained and finally they just gave up and ignored him. it was a sweet treehouse tho. a/c, cable, fully insulated, sound system, a loft...
and yeah, you can buy a toolshed and its fine, but then the subdivision association has to give you a permit to ensure that it keeps within the "aura" of the sub. so much bureaucracy that it just makes me wanna vomit. i wanna have a small building, on my own property to put my sh!t in, so i can park in the garage. i should not have to go through all this... i wouldnt be surprised if i wind up with a ticket on my door for the doghouse i just built...

Man I thought you were talking about the city saying you needed a permit. In FL it's only if it's attached to the house. But those Homeowner's Associations are a crock of $hit. What do they do with the $35? LOL That's the first thing I asked when the wife and I were looking at houses. There's no way someone's gonna tell me when to mow or that my car needs to move. Oh that pisses me off. Sorry.

                    Re: Girlfriend started smoking again!

since the sub is registered with the city and they have some sort of partnership or some bs, they can randomly decide they want permits for x, y, and z and the city will stand by them. i could go on and on and on about how retarded my city is but i've hijacked enough. sorry dude! just got a little carried away! let us all know how the whole thing goes with your girly!
