I've heard many things on what engines are going into these cars. Obviously the LS2 is in the concept so thats going in. But what about V6 models? Everyone is saying the new 3.9. Why not put the 3.6 from the Cadillac CTS? it makes 255 hp and 252 tq compared to the 3.9's 240 hp/tq. Now something interesting would be for a V8 option would be a LS based 8.1 big block from the trucks. New intake and cam and it would be over 500 tq and 400 hp.

On another note: I think it would be cool (although highly unlikely) if they made it V8 only. You could have a choice of something huge and ridiculous, an LS2, or a smaller 8... something similar to whats in the Monte Carlo.

Re: 5th gen engines?
they CANT just make V8 models, it wouldnt last. the v6's are what let the v8's be made. ALOT more v6's are sold than v8's. if they are putting two V8 options, what's the second one? ls7? probally not, so would they go smaller than the ls2?1998 bright red camaro ,M5 ,Y87 ,stock<br /><br />Originally posted by Rune:<br />If it smells like a turd and looks like a turd, chances are its probably not a candy bar.

Anywho, if they're going with 3 engines (2 of them V8s) then i'd bet that they'll have a new engine ready for it. It'd probably be of the LS4 variety, and probably what they'll stick in the next gen Montes, Impalas, and Grand Prixs as they're all supposed to be RWD (i think).

Re: 5th gen engines?
I bet one of the V8 eingines offered will come with DOD (Displacement on Demand) GM's version, of shutting off cylinders to save gas. And the other 8 will be of a more "Traditonal" style.

Re: 5th gen engines?
im pretty sure DOD has been mentioned already as part of the v8s. as much as it is a nice thing to have, i dont like the idea of having it on a muscle car.

Re: 5th gen engines?
i'd buy DoD! i test drove my uncle's '07 Tahoe. that shifted so seamlessly b/w 4 and 8 cylinders, it was sweet! i couldnt tell. i think it'd just switch while the trans was in the middle of the downshift. screw the traditional if i can get that DoD! power AND gas milage... whats not to love about that?
and i understand what blldgg is saying... caddie has always kinda done their own thing. they dont share alot in the GM parts pool. caddies just have that somethign about them that makes them different, so putting that breed of engine in a chevy.... it wouldnt even be remotely the same. Remember, caddies are supposed to be quiet, smooth, and gently powerful. the camaro is supposed to be a little louder, it'll be more peaky in terms of power band, it just wouldnt fit to have such a nice motor in a car thats supposed to be a bada$$.Last edited by Camaro Dom; 08-22-2006, 03:53 PM.2000 3.8L Camaro A4 Pewter Y87<br />K&N Filter, SLP Ram Air kit, Eibach Pro Kit, Flowmaster 80 series, Silverstars, NGK plugs and MSD Super Conductor Wires, Electric Water Pump

Re: 5th gen engines?
Thats what i'm saying... the LS4 has DoD... does it not? Anyway i have to agree with Dom: After all isn't the point of having the V6 to have better gas mileage?
