Re: Should they rebuild the Twin Towers exactly the same?

Um people, the designer of that building designed it to with stand a commercial jet plane to crash into it. the only thing was the 747 wasn't design then so it was designed to withstand a smaller jetliner. people in Washington and the security system of the world trade center all worried someone might high jack a commercial jetliner and crash it into either of those buildings. even then, the building held but the impact pretty much blew the fire retardant off the frame which allowed it to get hot, melt, whatever and fail. Every building has a weakness and when you have people bent on taking it down, it only takes some engineering knowledge and luck to do it. no matter what.

I may be remembering wrong.. but I do beleive the flame retardent stuff didn't work. The mall I work security for has simular stuff, after 9/11 they have wanted to get rid of it because it failed.

It's nasty stuff by the way, it's thick "dust like" spray, and you can coat beams and what not with it. If some gets kicked off of it, you hack it right up. It's like swaping old brakes out, the dust gets in you lungs and your sneezing black **** for a week.

There were a few faults in the building. As mentioned, the flame retardant stuff did not withstand the impact. The biggest fault was the open floor plan. This put all of the staircases together, so after the planes crashed, all of the staircases were unusable in one of the towers and the other tower only had one good staircase. The open floor plan also put all of the weight on the four corners instead of distrubuting in throughout several points. It's hard to explain, but Discovery had a show about this. The jist is, if the towers were to be rebuilt, they would not use the open floor plan. It was flawed. The designer of the building (some Japanese dude) even admitted it.

I voted. My reasons for how I voted are my own, and not open for comments or defending. However, I can respect everyone's reasons as to why they voted how they did, too. Let's hope this horrific incident never happens again.
