the only thing that worries me is that i KNOW the challeneger will have more hp stock. the Charger srt8 has 425hp from a 6.1Lv8. the only thing is that the price for one of those is ~$39k. so they're not cheap. lets see what the new challenger will offer price wise vs. the camaro... iirc an SS back in 2000 cost about $32k or sumthign like that. but i wont buy one till '10 so i got a fair amount of time to save. i'll never buy the first model year of a car.

the competiton has begun. love the way that Chrysler stated the Challenger at least drove in to its appearance while the Camaro was being towed. also love the answer GM gave. great stuff. hopefully this'll get really good...nice little rivalry reborn

The challenger will probably have the 6.1 hemi (425HP).
The camaro will probably have the LS2 (400HP).
On par with the other dodge's the challenger will probably weigh more.
The LS motors from GM have a better aftermarket.

Then you will get some kind of SRT-Something challeneger with more power.
That would lead the way to an LS7 camaro. We will see.
The advantage being that GM already has a 500HP motor in production, chrysler would need some work.

as wishful thinking as that would be, an LS7 camaro would be a limited edition, one time and its done sorta thing. think about it: in the 4th gens, the 'vette and f-bodies had the LS1, but the f-bodies got a detuned one. it makes better business sense to just give them both the exact same engine, but in reality, GM isnt gonna let ANYTHING come up to par with the 'vette. aint gonna happen. unless they actually put out that corvette SS, but even then, the price for a crate LS7 is 18k. you could buy a decent car for the price of just that engine. if you're gonna buy a camaro with a $18k engine, you might as well grab a vette for nicer interior and styling and all that. like i said, if it ever happened, it would be a collectors car.

The f-body did get the same engine as the vette. It was never detuned except in literature so it wasn't a threat to the vette in the show room. In late models the f-body even got some LS6 parts.

It's puzzling that some of you still think the Camaro might get an LS7. It ain't gonna happen. That motor is gonna be phased out before those cars are for sale. That's not to say that there won't be a GT500 competitor though, Scott Settlemire has already hinted at that.
