why not jsut say there are only 2 planets, Earth , & Mars, being the *only life bearing "planets"/spheres, big round things in space.

read up on Mars, intereesting stuff.

I grew up from grade 1 to now knowing that Pluto was a planet in our solar system. Now these guys go and change it. Astronomy is one of those sciences which requires a new updated textbook every few years. I lost track of all the new planets and stars over the years, the changing definitions of things, etc. I think I need to buy another book, preferrably something published in 2006. I'll just wait a bit longer until the next one comes out whihc will include this Pl;uto BS, so I can be up to date.

pluto isnt a ****ing planet.

A planet has to have its own orbit.... pluto does not.
A planet has to have a moon that orbits the planet. pluto has charon, they orbit each other.
A planet's moon is supposed to be significantly smaller in size. pluto and charon are very close in size.

this is all i can think of for now. there are more reasons.

I'm all about making pluto not a planet.

Our solar system has been kinda lame since I was born.

No near hit asteroids, space lasers, manned mission to mars, colonization of the moon; nothing.

You know 5 years ago I told my middle school students that someday they might turn Pluto down as a planet. For one thing it overlaps from our solar system and doesn't it orbit the other way around?

Pluto resembles the comet a lot more because it is a dirty ball of ice lbut unlike a comet it doesn't have a tail. Some comet has a solar system and so does Pluto, Charon. But because of their almost, similar size they orbit each other.

What's to say what a planet is anyway? I mean we have terrestrial planets like ours, Mars, Venus, Mercury because it has a solid surface, and then we got those big jehovian planets like Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus.

Those jehovian planets are nothing more than a huge cloud of gas with numerous moon. To me that's nothing more than gas with a strong gravity pull, but it is a planet.

Thats a very good point (and its soo cool that you are/were a middle school teacher). Really we should just count the inner 4 has planets.... then the gassy ones can be.. uh... i dunno. Kirby.

Those aren't part of the definition of a planet. The reason why Pluto is no longer a planet is because its orbit intersects with Neptune's.
