  • Gas Mileage!?

alright well i was reading the thread about our gas gauge SUCKING... and seeing the numbers you guys go to before refilling kind of made me sad. so what kind of gas mileage are you getting?

i personally am getting 22 in town -28 on highway, when im romping my way around town. but i drove nice the other week getting me 30 in town, no highway driving last week though. with our 15 or so gallon tanks we get i personally get well over 250-300 miles... i get like another 100 + miles out of my tank.

5spd? 30 in town seems a little high yet to be possible.. Unless you have alot of 45ish mph streets..

I have averaged as high as about 22 in city, and as high as 34ish hiway. But I have also averaged as low as 14/20... Automatic 3.4

Mine's an auto 3.8. I drove my car 8 hours home when I bought it. I wasn't going high-way speed the whole time (there were some badddd slow downs), I did some stupid speed-ups (topped 100 once just to christen it) and used the AC about 1/2 the time, but regardless of all of that I calculated it out and got almost exactly 28 mpg.

      Don't know about city driving.

i've heard a lot that the 3.8s get better milage than the 3.4s, which doesn't really make much sense to me, since it is a bigger engine. But i suppose with the newer technology they could do more. i have never calculated my gas milage, i just wish it was better. haha

my understanding of it is that the 3.4 has to try so much harder from its low torque numbers to move the car that it just sucks the gas compared to the 3800. my friend had a 3.4 and it was dog *** slow with NO torque to speak of against my 3.8, both cars are pretty damn close to stock.

my camaro is a 96 3800 with a 5 speed. all that has been done to my car is edelbrock cat back exhaust and aluminum driveshaft. for having 206XXX miles on her she runs like a friggin dream.

any other gas mileage people out there?

Exactly, under powered motors cost more gas. Actually the 3.4 Wake up I like to call, head, intake, cam, headers, fuel management, really takes care of your city driving millage!

                Re: Gas Mileage!?

I do almost all highway driving and I almost always put 350 miles to a tank. I have had the car sense Apr 01 and in original engine I put 390 on a tank once. I put a new motor in Apr 04 and have put just over 400 on a tank twice. But when its in the city I get no mileage. Probably cause I drive like an A$$. I usually average 24-26 mpg but have gone as low as 14 before. I also run mid-grade and this gets me better mileage than regular. All that highway driving, I decided to do some mpg test to see what was the best value of my dollar and mid-grade was it.

12 city miles and that is driving like an old person, and 25 highway miles.

2 weeks ago i drove to North jersey all highway mile w/AC (fan 1),little to none cruise (stupid drivers ) controlling , a few stop and go traffic ...i got a whopping 328 miles with my gas meter 1/4 to go that means i could've gone another lets say 75 miles which makes camaro 403 miles to a full tank....i'd say pretty good for an 8.5 year old car that i (and all previous owners) beat on .....

                              Re: Gas Mileage!?

I get 20 mpg and mine is all city driving, which is usually 25 mph in a subdivision

i live 3 miles from work and it takes me ~10 at least to get there

dont do enough highway driving to have any numbers for that

but i figure 280-310 a tank for myself with mild driving
