  • what do they look at for state safety inspections?

are they the same across all states? I really just want to know why they need to pull the wheels. Im not worried about failing (unless they check for broken bump stops )

what exactly do they look at though when doing an inspection. ive seen them pull all four wheels, pull one wheel, and pull no wheels at all.

i just spend an hour putting my salad shooters back on the car so they kid at firestone wont have to mess with my polished rims tomorrow. i hate taking the car places.

Maybe im just a lazy ***, but when I do safety inspections, I check for bulbs out, headlights work, good tires (not down to the cord), and depending on who it is (we get alot of undercover cars from the state trying to fine us) the cat. That is what the undercover guys tend to do, is put a cat shroud over some straight pipe and see if you dont check it. Then bam! huge fine.

well... they check tread, and wheel size. it isnt legal to have wheels 2 sizes above stock... at least in pa.
not sure what else it could be.

They're different from state to state. CO has none.

They take the wheels off to check the brakes.

thats actually probably one of the smarter states then. I hate it when people dont maintian their car. MI has none. the only real inspection we have are the 5-0 driving around. if its bellowing smoke or is sans muffler, then you'll get a ticket. past that, just dont lip off and you're fine. my friend was into mini-trucking for a few years. he had a list tacked in his room of all the crap that was illegal on his truck. something like 13 things. it was a cool truck tho, and the cops never said anythign to him about it.

Last time i got an inspection they took of my rims and left a nice scratch on one of them. I was so ****ing pissed, that guy got the finger and a earful once i was passed. I honestly wanted to hit him, extremely hard directly in the face.

he told you, you need to replace the fanbelt on your car with electric fans?

Re: what do they look at for state safety inspections?

It's to check brakes. MO requires they remove the wheels to check brakes. Although while they're under there you might want to have them make sure the calipers are still on the correct sides. Those things are tricky.
