its been a little over 2 months since i quit smoking(cold turkey) and it feels great. i no longer waste $3.64 a day on a pack, my lungs are still black, im sure, but will not be getting any blacker lol. i also realized that i didnt "need" a cigarette, i "wanted" one every time i lit up one back when i was still smoking. plus, i WANT to be around to see my daughter grow up w/out having to worry about health issues due to smoking.

anyone else quitting/thought about quitting? i say go for it. its well worth it.

    think about this:$ 3.64 x 60 = $218.00

ive saved a total of $218 as a result of me not smoking, to me, thats well worth it alone. i can now spend that money on other things for me and my family. i no longer have to step outside for a few minutes and then come back in smelling like smoke, dont have to layer myself w/ "axe" to cover the smoke smell up. its great!!! sorry for the long post, but i feel its worth it. im proud of myself.

side note: not only did i quit, by my mom quit also, july 4 was our "start" day to quit smoking.

    anyone else having any luck?

Good job man, keep it up, thats the hardest part. It seems to me like you will though, your real enthused about it

As for me, I never started smoking. I've seen something that said that if you have not started smoking by age 21, you have a 90% chance of never smoking. I like those odds, but i'm 100% not going to start.

im real excited and proud of myself, i thought for sure it was going to be harder than it has been but it really hasnt been. glad you made the wise choice and didnt start, very wise choice.

on a side note, i noticed i have been chewing on alot more sunflower seeds throughout the day while im at work. keeps my mind off cigs. 3/4 of the people where i work smoke. while there taking a cig break, im chewin away on my sunflower seeds lol.

Good. I'd say most of the addiction to cigarettes is having to have your hands doing something, which is why your new addiction is sunflower seeds lol

And you should be. Your daughter will appreciate it too. I quit a year ago. 99.9% of the time I'm fine. When I drink a lot, it gets harder to resist when I'm around my friends that still smoke.

Keep it up. I hear of much fewer deaths due to Sunflower seed addictions.

Good for you! And, Your lungs will actually start to repair themselves.
I never started since my grandfather almost died with lung cancer.

I decided last night after too many failed attempts to quit that this was the time, I'm only 14 hours into it at this point and I have gone a week without a smoke before so this is just the beginning for me but I think I can keep myself busy enough. The toughest part for me right now is staying focused. Be it on work or whatever I can't stay focused on anything but it will pass in time and I already feel better it's 30 minutes after my lunch and I'm not crashing right now like ususal so there are almost instantaneous positives to quitting. Now if I can just keep this cranky edge off I'll be all good.

A nicotine fit only lasts for 2 minutes. Tough it out 2 mins at a time, man. Good luck.

im trying to help a friend of mine quit
problem is, she uses it as a crutch when she gets stressed
I told her i would keep a pack in the freezer for her and give her one as neccessary
idk if it will work, but we will see
she'll prolly end up buying another pack and smoking when shes not around me lol

that having one every now and then thing doesn't work, in the end you still use it as a crutch and you will start back. The first part to quitting is convincing yourself that you really want to quit all together, and that you don't need it as a crutch. When you reach that point you can work through those times. That's how I quit for 2 years then started using them as a crutch again when I started getting stressed over grad school.

Of course I wound up starting back so maybe I got it all wrong. And the second time around I was smoking more and it is much more difficult this time.

On that note though I'm up to around 36 hours without one. I just realized I lost a ****load of work from yesterday due to not saving an email attachment out of the email before begining to work on my revisions. yeah I was wanting one bad but nothing left to do now but get to work.
I'm forgetful as hell right now too, and can't keep a steady train of thought either, can ya tell

well we were talking about it last night and she said that the reason she hasnt quit is because there hasnt been something significant in her life that makes her feel she needs to quit. I told her when something significant DOES happen its too late (ie. lung cancer)
On one hand I dont want to see her killing herself and making herself unhealthy everyday, but on the other, its her choice and her life and it doesnt neccessarily bother me so unless she comes to me and asks me to help her quit, then i am not going to say or do anything about it.
When she doesnt have a cig for a few days, she gets downright NASTY mean, so i dont care what she does as long as she just makes a decision

yeah I'm pretty nasty and mean right now, finacee pointed it out yesterday evening, I just told her I might not be very fun for the next 2 weeks or so. but it does get easier and you are right it is her decision, trying to make it for her will not help matters at all.
