exactly, civil service (Police and fire) are the kind of jobs you either know is for you, or know it isnt.

My friend of 10 years graduated the academy before I did, he was on for almost 2 years, then last december he was a responder to a call about 100 feet from where his fellow officers shot and killed a suspect, but as the suspect was going down he fired off a shot which struck my friend hitting him in his back, paralizing him from his nipples down. So you have to think of the dangers of the job and if you have wife and kids, what it will mean to them.Good luck to you. Steve

I have 13 years on the force and love my job. No matter what you do in life, you take risk's. The pay is decent. I make between 57-60k a year, not including OT. I've been searching for a Township though because I'm tired of the political crap that's within this city! I know I'll deal with it elsewhere too, but it just can't be as bad as it is here in Philly.

If you have any college experience, go for a township. Cities aren't worth the time and effort you paid into your education. A township usually wants people with college credits and pays much better.

My theory is: When it's you time to go, you're going...period!
Fear is actually good because it's keeps you alert. Becoming complaisant will get you killed. And NEVER...EVER underestimate the size of a person! Especially those on P C P, Angel Dust, Meth, etc. They are strong as **** (poop)!

I work in security, i'm going to the police acadamy in Feb. (just found out I got hired !! ) and I love my work. Don't do it for the uniform or the money, do it for yourself and the public good. Feel free to ask me any questions on the hiring process (it's long and dreary) or anything else.
