So your on welfare and you drive a new Denali with 22s, or a Navi on 22s. Your rude b/c you can't buy hot food with your food stamps or you can't get Lucky Charms on WIC vouchers. I think welfare should be harder to get and better regulated. Some of the people in the welfare system eat better than me. One lady had the nerve to tell me she bought porterhouse steaks for her dog. I get those maybe once every 6 months! She buys them weekly for an animal. Quoting my fav. line "WAKE UP AMERICA!" I think the work for welfare should be in place at all times. Thoughts?

Re: So your on welfare....
I think the idea of it all is good but yeah there are some people taking advantage. People screwing the system bothers me as much as dead beat parents. When I first got with my girlfriend she was divorced with 2 toddlers, working 40+ hours a week as a HVAC Tech and she got assistance for daycare, so she could work, and food stamps. Her ex husband never paid a dime of child support, that was court ordered, and still has not paid a dime. We were at wal-mart and she asked me if I would be embarrassed if she used foodstamps. I said of course not. I think that in a senario like this, thats why the system is there and its ok. Did you know that military members with familys (kids and wife) qualify for food stamps and WIC for the first 4 years or so, maybe even longer depending on how fast they advance. I think that is sadOriginally posted by kalaI'll have buttsecks with Richard Simmons!

Re: So your on welfare....
LOL I might have to have my step dad make that as a vinyl decal for me...I don't care how tacky it would look. Also, what I forgot is how people who don't even speak English get welfare, it kills me. I know people need help but its gone too far. Where I work we can't call foodstamps that anymore we have to call them the Ohio Direction Card or Direction card participants, because food stamps offends them. Bottom Line, It is needed; people do deserve help but they should not make it their lifestyle, because then they pass that attitude on to their children, and it starts all over again.Last edited by Savorybacon; 09-12-2006, 11:41 AM.

Re: So your on welfare....
I think stricter regulations and/or better enforcement of the regulations is the problem
guy driving the Yukon denali on 22s, I can gurantee he doesn't report his income, and is coming by it illegally. Stealing food stamps is probably the best thing he is doing.1993 t-topped camaro to let the rays in.

Re: So your on welfare....
Let's make the portion of income tax that is redistributed to welfare, WIC, Section 8 Housing, food stamps, HEAP, Medicaid, disability, and the tens of billions of dollars of additional handouts made up by the array of other federal and state entitlement programs, optional. We'll soon see how many Americans really support these programs, despite the fact that many claim to.
Do I sound bitter? That’s because I am. These programs are so abused and so poorly managed, as much of the government is, that they need to be scrapped completely. The corruption cannot be weeded out.
I'm sick and tired of running into lowlifes who receive lifetime SSI disability checks from our coffers, but are as able to work as any healthy American. I'm willing to bet a lot of you have seen this, too.
I'm sick and tired of seeing people going through the checkout isle at the supermarket with food of a higher quality than I myself, a hard working middle-class American, could easily afford, only to whip out the food stamps to pay. Maybe you’ve even seen them ring up their beer separately and then whip out a huge wad of cash to pay for it. I have.
It’s the best when you walk by them packing their groceries into their 40 to 50 thousand dollar vehicle.
I don't know about where the rest of you all live, but here in upstate New York I get the singular pleasure of listening to state run radio commercials for food stamps. Yes, that's right – apparently there are not enough people raping our paychecks for their Porterhouse dog treats, in the eyes of New York State. They want more, and they're willing to advertise. You don't even need to understand our language, as they blitz out the phone number in Spanish at the end of the ad.
I'd also like to know how much it costs us here to convert food stamps to a "small plastic debit card, much like most Americans carry in their wallets," as the radio ads describe. I guess it was too humiliating for some people to whip out all that multi colored funny-money at the checkout, so we needed to go spend what was probably a small fortune to save their dignity. Or, perhaps it was to keep them from selling their food stamps on the corner for drug money.
We need to weed out the abusers, and fortify these programs so that they work as intended: emergency programs for hard-working people who have fallen on hard times unexpectedly. No more living off the sweat of the middle class. Unfortunately, it is a fantasy, because neither the GOP or the Democrats will touch this issue – its too destabilizing for their political aspirations. What a sad world we live in.Last edited by Infernal; 09-12-2006, 01:34 PM.

Re: So your on welfare....
Couldn't agree more. I work my arse off to have the things I do and it irratates me no end to see people with twice as much as me that have worked half as much or less for it, i.e. goverment handouts. It's too bad that a petition din't make more of a diffrence but I think at this point there's too much corruption and nobody knows how to say NO anymore, people are to afraid to upset and offend, well I say F*** that do what needs to get done and say what needs to be said.Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

I use to work there. We didn't just hand out checks. We helped out expecting mothers and give them advise and make them follow programs so that baby in their womb would be healthy. We also did the same for women with little children. We made sure that they are getting the nutrition they need.
Ok the ones we handed checks too are 99.5% of the times dirt poor. I mean below poverty level. A great percentage of them are young women, with some in their teens with no fathers around. We went after a lot of dead beat fathers.
You guys shouldn't really generalize. You're complaining because you're poor right now. Well you're poor because you are a college student and that's normal. Plus you have mommy and daddy to help out if you need it. Once you graduate, you're living the good life.
Right now I work for a Business Medical School in San Bernardino where a lot of our students are poor, in welfare, and trying to work on their GED. If anybody is familiar with S. Calif. you would know San Bernardino is the poorest place in Calif. Part because poor people got shoved to this area because of the high cost of living in other places.
Part of my job is to assign students to a GED center in their area. So they could get their GED and finish their schooling with us with a certificate in Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Massage Therapy, or Medical Administrative. I also do GAIN's program where these welfare students do extra work for the EDD center so they could continue to receive welfare checks or assisted living checks while going to school, and working part time. All of our students doing this are young single mothers. Our job is to help them, help themselves.
Poverty is such a polarized thing that you also have to consider the environment they are in, the mental state they are going through, the circumstances, and whole lot more. And you know what? it's getting worse because of the way our culture is going plus the rate of inflation going up compare to the rate of wages that hasn't change for the last 12 years.
Are there people taking advantage of Welfare, Yes. We've gone after people who takes out SSI and goes around the loop hole to collect more. They do get punish. But like I said the majority of them need it and they need it for a good reason. Or else, they and their children will be homeless.
