For those of you who smoke

I just found out yesterday that one of my former co-worker has lung cancer. She quit her job without letting anybody know that she has a cancer. One of her close friend who happens to be a friend of mine as well told me.

The sad part is that she has no medical insurance. She works part-time for the city. It really ticks me off that the city won't give her a full time job because it means they would have to give her benefits.

Plus she has grandkids to take care off and 2 deadbeat divorced sons. From what I know the sons are arguing who will have the house once she's gone. Sad.

I knew she's a long time smoker, since her 20's. I think she's in her 50's right now. According to her she only smokes 2-4 cigs. a day.

It's looks very grim. The doctor didn't say that she has hope for surviving. She looks so fragile right now. It is as if I touch her her bones might break.

I had an uncle who died of emphasema in his early 40's and he was a pack a day smoker. It was not a pretty sight. A simple thing like peeing just exhausted him.

Something to think about for those of you who smoke.

Yeah I'm seriously considering quiting today as a matter of fact (really!). I go through a pack in about a day and a half. Lotta stressful **** to go through everyday but thats no excuse. I'd save a lot of money,be healthier and could use to gain a few pounds anyways.

thats horrible to hear. both my grandparents have cancer, one had 75% of his left lung removed last year and they're both on some-what-high percentage of oxygen all the time. i know exactly what you mean by see them exhuasted after walking just a few feet. being young and stupid and ignorant that i am, i still smoke. no where near as much as i used to( cigs anyway), now im more of a social smoker. its hard to get the point home unless you actually see it, i think thats why teens dont see much wrong with it. sure you can tell us all you want that its bad for us, just doesnt really hit us i guess. hopefully this wont turn into a big fight like the past smoking threads, why is there never a chewing thread? just as bad for you IMO.

Theres lots of other things, in fact, there are millions of other things that you can do when your stressed besides smoke a cigarette. I just think its so ****ing stupid.

It's tough to see people who you know go through that.

My better half smokes. So not happy with that. She knows it and has tried eveything to stop. Pills, gum, cold turkey (that wasn't pretty), hypnotism, special filters, and the list goes on an on.... Nothing f***ing works!

I'm dreading having to see her go through all that when the time comes. But it's only a matter of time.

I Have never smoked, anything..(ok a few sets of tires), so maybe its hard for me to understand, but when you are confronted with the choice of doing somethign you KNOW is harmful, possibly fatal...how do you just take that in and say "yea...maybe, but i'll role the dice anyways."

Everyone does their own thing, and I respect that. You smoke, you smoke whatever, its your call. But for me, looking at the facts would say it all...... time to find a new hobby

dont worry when tomkins lip falls off then one will come... it sucks i hate hearing about people who get cancer and die from smocking or doing drugs and drinking and ****..i gave all of that **** up.. i dont drink smoek or do drugs or anything... mostly everyone i know does though...sucks how most peopel have to lear nthe hard way

lol hey now... my keybored is actually reall small and my fingers allways slip onto other keys..reason i dotn fix..cuz i dotn care lol ...plus i rarly look when i type so yeahh .. on paper i can spell just fine though lol .. actually being seriosu though i dont drink..drinking killed my father, 2 of my uncles and came close to killing another guy i knew since i was liek 4 or 5 so yeah i dont feel a need to waste my time... nor money

i smoked a PACK a day prior to me quitting.
i quit COLD TURKEY!! w/no gum no patches no anything.

if you say you cant or think you cant, you cant.


yes its hard, yes it sucks the first week, but after the first week
you will realize you dont NEED cigs, you WANT them. you realize
how nasty they taste after you have quit.

However - You can die from all sorts of risky behavior. At least cigarettes have a warning on the box.

Drinking, smoking, driving fast (possibly all at the same time) can really screw up your life. There is enough info out there for people to make decisions for themselves.

If its not your thing, don't do it.

i dont see how you can smoke weed and not REALLY want a cig afterwards. thats like half the reason i got hooked, after a bowl im dieing for a smoke. add me to the list of wee > cancer sticker. i still smoke both, but i could probally quit cigs if i tryed, and i probally should. but they do help.
