  • How much would you pay for an 87 IROC-Z?

this guy around my way is selling an 87 IROC-Z 5.7L Tuned Port Injection for $3500.

Sticker shows 97k miles. Couldn't see the odometer since the guy wasnt home.
The paint was decent tho the typical scratches on the front spoiler were there.
    Body line was straight.
Did the usual "knocking" around the car to see if there was any bondo being used. Negative results.
The trunk "wing" (idk what its called) has a big crack in it.
The interior was a bit dirty but you can tell it would look good after a cleaning.
The back seats were either very dirty or that was mold i saw.

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head. This is THE engine I've been looking for. I haven't test drove it yet to hear it and feel it perform but, as the title reads, how much would you pay? what could I possibly bring this guy down to?

Sounds like a decent car. Moldy seats can be cleaned, spoiler can be replaced. I don't think 3500 is too bad for that car, but you don't know how it drives yet, what condition it's in mechanically. That would be my deciding factor.

for that price you could get a lt1 car with probably less miles.

iroc z's are just plain cool. as long as the body's alright you can go to town w/ the drivetrain. depends on what u want it for, 3500 for a mint body is definately worth it if you wanna rod it. if you need a DD with some power... what the bibinator said^^

It might be cool, but it's almost 20 years old. Look it up on KBB. It's probably worth peanuts.

There was an 87 at the a Ford dealer around here that was MINT. I mean the engine bay was still clean. 2000 watt stereo 15,000 orignal miles for $12,500.

from the sounds of the condition. i would NOT pay 3500 for it. if you want a L98 that bad look for a newer 3rd gen. i still say look around, there are better deals than that.

3500 is a steal. Especially for a brand car that's going rare. I know some people who are steering away from 4th gen LT1 because of the engine bay configuration and Optispark problem.

I posted a couple of years ago how this mom and pop dealer let me drove mint condition GTA (80K miles stock), 96 camaro z28 (70k), 98 TA (90K), and 300zx (120k) because he was the only one in the lot and he was closing a deal with a client.

Of those cars I drove the GTA surprised me the most. The bottom end torque was amazing. The LS1 kinda disappointed me a little bit. I didn't think it was strong till you're like in third gear and it was modified too.

tq on the l98 hits its peak at like 2200rpm so it does feel better. the lt1 hits peak around 3300-3400rpm iirc.

the ls1s powerband is so consistent that it doesnt give you the brute force feeling but its there. believe me, after driving a modded ls1 my car felt like a civic.

3500 is too much for a car that is 20 years old, has cracks, interior that will more than likely need some TLC, and a paint job and has almost 100k miles. yes they might be rare so to speak, but not worth the money IMO when looking at what the car needs. he'll wind up putting more money into fixing it in the end than what he payed. and given the condition of the car id say its seen some tough days getting beat on over the years and might need some serious attention motor wise. id pay no more than 2000 for it. that might not be the case, but expect the worse when it comes to a v8 sports car that is that old.

the only way its worth it is if he's looking for a project car to restore, but even then if thats the case you can find them cheaper than 3500 for a project car.

so i guess my question is: what are your intentions for the car?

i will say a car is worth whatever someone's willing to pay though.

to be honest. i miss v8's :( I've wanted a 5.7 for a long time now and couldnt find any crap cars to rip one out of. Im going to go by the house today maybe and see if its still there. It should be tho, its been for sale for a long time now. Which is another thing that worries me.
