  • Buying a 2000 T/A

Ok I have a few questions and hope this is the correct forum. Im upgrading my bird to a TransAm. The only problem is its been wrecked and CARFAX is not showing a wreck. I was looking at the front bumper and notice a color difference with the drivers/passenger front fenders also you can notice the body does not fit correctly in that area. I also notice that one shock tower is painted a different color than the other and the different color is on the side with the body parts not fitting. I'm really concerned and wondering what I should do next. I was thinking of taking it to a body shop to have them look it over before buying. I also plan on telling the dealer to come off the price cause they think its in PERFECT condition. Im glad one of the mechanics mentioned something to me. But on a good note its a 2000 TransAm with a 6-speed tranny and all the other great bells and whistles HEHEHEE. But I know that if they dont wanna come off the price I'll bail. Any adice would be great. I have to go back Friday to finish the paper work and test drive it. When I went and looked at it today it was having a new steering column put in(hmmm that sounds fishy). Oh yeah and this is one of those BIG stealerships.
Oh and what else should I be lookin for????

DEFINITELY have it looked at. It definitely sounds like it's been wrecked. The question is how bad.

It sounds like it was in a major wreck and put back together for a quick sale.

Have it inspected and maybe shop around a bit. There is usually no shortage of trans ams/firebirds/camaros for sale that are in excellent condition.

carfax only shows that which was reported. Ask to see title, and deff take to a mechanic. If you really want to, haggle like a mofo. Get them to do their "best" price, think about t, say "I dunno", i better wait a day or so, look around for something w/better payments/lower price. Start to walk out. If they really want it gone, they'll work w/you.

                  Re: Buying a 2000 T/A

before i bought my camaro, i was shopping for an s10 extreme, found the perfect truck i wanted.. but they were asking $12,500.. v6 extended cab but it had been wrecked, and the front kit was bondo'd to all hell.
the paint job needed a good wet sand and buff done to get the orange peel out but overall a good truck.
I low-balled him, told him i will buy for 9k out the door. He told me i was an ******* and he would sell the truck for 12k no problem. ( a dealership ).

I told him call me in 2 weeks if u still have it.. nobody will pay that price, and he told me not to hold my breath.

sure enough, 3 weeks later he called me, told me they would agree on that price, but i had already purchased the camaro.

Basically... they need to come down on the price, so tell them your interested but you wont pay that price so until they work with you ... you will be shopping elsewere

I would walk away. You can easily find one that hasn't been wrecked before.
