Anyone for Talladega Oct 8th???

Is anyone else going to the race? Im planning on leaving next Wednesday morning and heading that way. I figuring about a 3 to 3 1/2 hr drive seeing how I wont be pulling a camper this time. This time I'll be staying with friends in their camper from Thursday to the Monday after the race. If anyone else is going and would like to meet up for lunch, shoot the breeze or to check out the Motorsports Hall of Fame/Museum....just shoot me a PM or email LarryMow1@hotmail.com

I hear ya....I never did like watching it on tv, but its really exciting seeing it in person. Between 200,000 ppl in one spot, the sound of the engines, the smells of the fuels, and all the crazies in the stands, there is always something to make ya smile.

Can you see the whole track from your seats? I've been to Pocono a few times, and it's hard to see all the way around without expensive seats and a set of binoculars.

Yeah I can actually....I get the same seats for every race....right in the middle of pit road, right up next to the suites and pressbox. Now that I think about it, there is one spot where I cant see the cars on the backstretch but its only for a second or two. I sat on the backstretch one year for the Busch race, surprisingly, those were pretty good seats as well. Dega usually does a special where if you sit on the backstretch you can get tickets for the Busch AND the Nextel race for $60. My frontstretch tickets just for the Nextel race are usually $75.

Yeah, I agree, if it's on TV. I've never been able to snooze at Daytona.

Schrader?!?! lol I think its safe to say that you can hang up that one....but then again stranger things have happened....like the year Bobby Hamilton won it. Goooooooooooooooooooooooo Jr!!!!!!!!!! (lord knows ive spent enough money on budweiser over the years that it oughta be the fastest damn thing on the track, lol)

Sorry, I know he isn't going to win. I've been a Schrader fan for a long time. He was driving for Bud when I got back into racing again, that's how I decided who to pull for. I've followed him ever since, from Bud to Skoal to the BAM years to Little Debbie (Mmmmmm, that's a sponsor I can get behind). Gotta love Jr though, and anyone else in a Chevy. I really like the fact that ol' Jeff Burton is running good.

Yeah I remember when Schrader drove the #25 Bud car. Hes a good driver and seems like hes a supernice guy. I bet he's got some stories to tell. As a longtime fan of Childress racing, I am glad to see Burton doing good. If my boy Dale Jr. cant win the championship, I wouldnt mind seeing Burton or Mark Martin winning it.

He was supposed to retire last year, but with Kurt Busch being let go along with other sponsorship concerns, Jack Roush asked him to stay one more year. Now theres rumors going around that hes gonna drive for Robert Yates...only time will tell.

Yeah, I know, I was just teasing.

I now have a new respect for those drivers. I was part of a competition yesterday and got to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience. I got 4 green and 2 yellow laps around Daytona as a ride along. I don't know how they do it for 500 miles.

Where I work had a team of 6 and there were 5 other teams from radio stations and the local paper and another from the track. We won the poll by doing a 9.4 sec one tire change and fastest laps on a simulator. But came in 4th overall at the end of the day. The on track relay wasn't much we could do, the drivers were just out there having fun... not really racing, like we were in the pits.

Last April @ Dega I was talking to a ARCA driver, he says that the Petty schoo is a good program but the Fast Track driving school is alot better as well as cheaper. I dont remember what he said the major differences were, but I'd love to just get out there behind the wheel one time and put the hammer down.

I don't know about the driving school part of it. We have Skip Barber that uses the track for driving school also. Maybe check them out also, if your interested in the schools. I think they are more of the open wheel school thing though.

We were doing the ride along part. I know the ride alongs go faster than the drive ones. You can tell from the stands which cars are doing the rides or the drives, there is a noticable difference in the speeds.

It was a good time, they even had a Air Force Reserve Servicemember sing the National Anthem... kinda cheezy when you think about it, but it added to the whole "being part of a race" theme.
