  • Opinions on Sentra SER V-SPEC?

I've had my car for almost 8 years now and its been my only car i've ever owned. I'm considering getting away from the f-body crowd and trying something new. i've driven a few SER's at work and they're pretty nice and a buddy i use to work w/ just got one. 04's go for around $10k here, which i can afford. does anyone know if these are decent cars or are there many problems that go wrong w/ them? i want something sporty, fun to drive, nice interior, but nothing i'll waste my money modding.

please don't tell me i can get an ls1 for that price. trust me i've been looking but there are not many to choose from w/in 300 miles from me. most are high mileage, ragged out, or just not worth buying.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard about a problem with screws on their butterfly valves backing out on falling into the intake manifold.

It' doesn't sound that sporty. :( I don't think I could stand a car that was sorta sporty. I would want something sporty or plain eco car.

ive drove a couple. they are a fun car to drive, feel really nimble. the tourqe steer is a little much, but not to bad. the only problems i have heard of are some tranny problems, have a tendency to grind going into 3rd. i have also heard of some recalls becase of electrical problems causing fires. other then that they are good cars, and i hear respond very good to mods. i would imgaine a boosted one would be pretty intense. i say go for it as long as u can deal with the fwd aspect.

I dunno about that... the fully upgraded one in NFSU handled like a pig... :p

Re: Opinions on Sentra SER V-SPEC?

I owned an 05 Spec V. I really liked it. I only had an intake and exhaust, and it really ripped! I was planning to go turbo, but I decided to get something else. I loved the torque that that 4 cyclinder put out. The 6 speed is great. I regularly beat up on much more modified Hondas with it. It was a sleeper, because I had the 05 model which looked way more like a normal Sentra. I didn't like the front wheel drive, torque steer, or how small the car was. I decided I was done with compacts. I bought a 01 Grand Prix, and when my wife and I decided to get a 2-door sports car I went with my Firebird to stay with the old faithfull 3800. If you have any other questions I can answer please ask.

i'm sorry dude, but imo, i just hate 4 bangers. i dont like the way they sound, dont like the way they feel, dont like anything about them. i got one in my 94 s-10 and i just hate it. i'll never drive a fwd car either. dunno man, just not a fan of imports as "sporty cars". the only exception really would be the acura nsx, but then again, thats not exactly an economy/"sporty" car

I have to agree with Dom on this one. I see the "Spec-V's" all over the streets, and everytime they give me this look like I could take you *****. Unfortunately, they are always in the turn lane next to me. I have never driven one, tho I am sure they wouldnt be all that impressive. So I would say why not look at something like a SRT-4 or Cobalt SS. If you are looking for a 4cyl., why not pick up one with some power under the hood? Personally, I wouldnt be able to drop below a 6, but I understand not going for the ellis juan.

the reason i'm looking for a 4cyl is b/c i'm prob going to be getting a new marketing job and i'll be driving all over town. i'm thinking about an srt-4 if i have the money, but it will only be mildly modded. i know most people wouldn't consider the sentra "sporty" and i kinda like that. i've shown off enough w/ my firebird, now i'm looking to blend in. i won't ever moddify the exhaust on the sentra, just pretty much lower it and maybe some new wheels.

i guess i'm just growing up and could care less trying to be fast. my car is slow now and i don't race it ever, so it wouldn't change anything. i'd rather spend money on more important stuff like things for the house instead of my car. i'm looking at this as a temporary car. something to drive for 1-2 years max.

well in that case do with something less expensive than the Sentra, if it is just temporary no point in dishing out that much.

heed this advice, cause this is post 1K!

if i get something less expensive then it will probably be something that i will regret buying and end up hating w/ a passion. i need something kinda nice to get by on.

though about one of those older 5-speed maximas. They are peppy, look ok, and probalby not as expensive as a sentra.

I hear ya bud. You won't know till you take one out for a test drive. Definitley don't take opinions from people who have never even sat in the car let alone drive it.

I briefly looked at one for sale on a used car lot for the heck of it. Seems like too much money for what you get though.

I know im on this Legacy kick now, but if you go with an 03 Legacy GT, you'll get AWD, decent gas mileage, well built car and semi sporty at a reasonable price similar price for one of those. Something to look into maybe?
