yep backwoods redneck in Milan Italy at the moment. I'm here for work but am managing to see some cool stuff at the same time. I arrived at noon local time on saturday. I have already made a train trip on sunday to pizza to see the leaning tower and then swung back through Florence and saw the statue of david and some other cool stuff.
Car stuff:
In the first 30 minutes I saw a yellow enzo, cool as hell looking in person butt ugly color. I have seen numerous ferrari's but no lambo's or cool maz's. I see those in dallas all the time anyway. I have managed to see one black pre 98 4th gen bird. The extra side markers and clear front fogs were interesting looking but made it look like crap. Dude driving was greasy looking with a mohawk/mullett. go figure
Most cars here are small hatchbacks of all makes. Many people here get around on motorcycles or scooters. People just drive stupid, the drive wherever they want and parking is friggin crazy. On the street where my hotel is located people just park on the sidewalk wherever they can. (Pics to follow) Pedestrians are on their own, you don't walk out in front of a car because they will honk if they are courteous and just flat run you over if they are not. The cab ride last night from the train station was quite interesting going through every hard turn the driver kept putting his hand on the parking brake, I was wondering when he was going to try to throw the car into a drift. It never happened though, all the while in a turbo deisel focus. I'd guess over half the modern cars here seem to be deisels.
General culture:
Generally people are somewhat nice unless you walk in a high end store, then expect them to act like they are doing you a favor just by waiting on you. Either people don't shower regularly or don't wear deodorant, I'm not sure either way I think you understand. Public bathrooms are hit or miss, I haven't seen a guys room with toilet paper yet.
One was just a place for your feet and a hole in the floor.
I am staying the milan mariott and by european standards it is a palace by US standards other than the fancy entrance, overpriced bar and tons of marble in the room it's worse than a motel 6 and most holiday inn's would put it to shame.
Overall though I am really happy to have the experinece and will be sharing with everyone here as soon as I can upload my pics to yahoo pictures.
