  • San Jose Number 1...

Yep, you heard me. San Jose now officially has *THE* worst roads in the country (for a big city). And since i got my car lowered don't i know it! Its intresting how out of the top seven, 5 are in Cali. You'd think roads in the north would be worse because of the snow. Apparently not. I attribute it to laziness on the part of the city council, who have no immediate reason to fix any of the roads.

    :(

    this is so true..

Fortunantly for me, around my neighborhood, the streets are nice and paved with smooth black asphalt. but yea..
our roads suck.. well atleast the highway roads do.
not surprised.. because San Jose lies near the San Andreas Fault; a major source of earthquake activity in California. Also San Jose considers itself "the Capital of Silicon Valley." As such, its economy rises and falls with high-tech employment in the Bay Area. which means.. a reported 405,000 jobs within the city limits and an unemployment rate of 4.6%. SO BASICALLY A LOT OF PEOPLE COMMUTING TO AND FROM SAN JOSE. San Jose, Ca is a REAL BIG CITY.. the third-largest city in California and the tenth-largest in the United States. Also For the past several years, it has held the title of The Safest Big City in America. San Jose is located in Silicon Valley, at the south end of the San Francisco Bay. With an estimated population of 953,000, San Jose is the largest city in Northern California.

    More about SAN JOSE..

San Jose had the highest median household income of any place with a population over 300,000 in 2000, and currently has the highest median income of any place with over 225,000 people.

San Jose, like most of the Bay Area, has a Mediterranean climate tempered by the presence of the San Francisco Bay. Unlike San Francisco, which is exposed to the ocean or Bay on three sides and whose temperature therefore varies relatively little year-round and overnight, San Jose lies more inland, protected on three sides by mountains. This shelters the city from rain and makes it more of a semiarid, near-desert area, with a mean annual rainfall of only 14.4 inches (366 mm), compared to some other parts of the Bay Area, which can get up to four times that amount. It also avoids San Francisco's omnipresent fog most of the year.

MOST OF THIS WAS QUOTED FROM.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jose,_California :D

despite the roads SAN JOSE > ALL!

"The state has doubled funding for repaving from $326 million in 2005 to $666 million this year, and has spent the summer repaving Highway 101 and Interstate 280 through the South Bay, sections of Highway 17, Highway 92 along the Peninsula and Highway 152 east of Gilroy. During the next decade, Caltrans intends to repave 13,592 of the 18,453 miles of lanes throughout the state".

        Congrats!!! *starts slow clap*

It must be pretty bad because Baltimore is rank #11 and if you have ever driven an f-body there you feel like the car may bounce off the road into a crack house if you go faster than 5 mph.

I will say that our roads up here really aren't that bad. But they seem to be paving a lot every year, which is fine by me. But I really don't drive in the city, mostly on the outskirts.

Well thats cuz you guys get truck loads of snow. It was like that when i lived in MA: The roads were really bad during the winter and the spring due to frost heaves and potholes, but when summer came around they repaved everything and it was great. Here, where the weather is always nice they have no motivation to do anything. I think most of the freeways around here (except 280) still have their original concrete from when they were built in the 50s.
