  • To Boost, or swap

SO my motor is done for the year and I thought I was all set to go get another one when my Dad stps me the other day and says, why not just sell all your parts and swap a LS1?

Its a sexy thought, I mean I could throw a cam and heads on the motor right away, and build an N20 Motor.

    I dont know, advice please.

Why? You've been building this thing for a while, everybody goes LS1.

Swap it and you will be shunned forever!

Jk man. It is a sexy thought, but I would just keep going with your project. You have gotten this far, dont quit now. :)

I guess the reason is I never intended to this far on this motor, I mean I made a total today of what I could part it out for and holy ****, made me realize just how expensive of a project this all is, plus not too many people realize all the tuning and **** that is involved even once the turbo is on. The project has been a lot of headaches so far and the car is Still NA!! Now with the motor going i need to find a new one

but i want forged pistons $700~
and I will want bore, hone, decking, assembly $900~
all new bearings, rods, bolts $400~

You see where I am going with this, The motor alone has well over $6000 invested into it with the turbo, and I just cant see spending more, I have college, an apartment, etc etc.

But if I knwe I could get by no problem what so ever on a GTP block i would be all for it, but there arent many guaruntees with a turbo.

That's a shame though. Too many people are leaving the V6 scene. I thought for sure you'd be one of the top dog since you got all these plans for it.

            Good luck though.

I dont want to say I have ruled it out keeping the six yet, cause I havent.

Its just something else to consider.

I wouldnt say that, I have posts out on like 5 diff sites trying to get some kind of a deal on used pistons or rods or whatever, just none of them are being responded to. I have months to make a decision as the car cant be driven in winter anyways.

                      Re: To Boost, or swap

i will eventually be going ls1 when funding catches up so my response is a little biased
no replacement for displacement and ****
I just see it as where I wanna go a v8 is cheaper than a v6

I of course wont forget where I came from! I will always hang out and encourage the v6ers!!

go spend time on a v8 site for a week, you'd die to comeback here. all v8 sites are full of a$$holes and people who think thier car is better than everyone elses. hence why i am still here. :)

i only post on ls1tech if i need an answer to something i cant figure out. other than that i have no urge to post there and become a full blown douchebag.

If your goal is only to go fast, do the LS1. If you want to be unique and still quick, do the turbo v6. At first all I wanted was to go fast, so I was going to get an LS1. Later I decided that I want to keep my car around so I'm just going to boost the v6.
