No T-tops? What's the point?

In the new Super Chevy, they drive the 2009 Camaro concept. About 2/3 of the way through the article they talk about styling and what matches and what doesn't. And then they dropped this bomb...

"...For production there will most likely be only a fixed roof and a convertable. The styling of the roof could not accommodate T-tops, and quality control issues mean GM couldn't accomodate all the squeaks, leaks, and rattles they would bring..."

It's true.. page 44 of November '06 volume 35 no. 11 Super Chevy. Read 'em and weep. Well, IMO they aren't bringing back the camaro if they don't bring back the whole car. T-tops are part of the car.

Well, the origianal Camaro didnt have t-tops and they are aiming for that look. I dunno, just a thought.

but t-tops are slightly heavier
and it removes the strength of the subframe

it is too bad they wont have them on the new ones, its soo fun to go semi-topless

Drove my car maybe 10 times with the T-tops off in the 10 years I had my car.No T-tops on the new camaro no big deal to me.Maybe I'm just to laze to take them on and off.

I dont have t-tops and honestly, I dont really ever catch myself thinking "man if I had t-tops, I'd take'em off right now". It doesnt really matter too much to me. Plus, I dont know where I'd put them, the giggle juice bottle is their storage space :D

You are mistaken if you think t-tops are heavier, or if hardtops have a stronger subframe.


All cars are 4th gens are T-top cars, but some were made into hardtops...

The weight of the metal coming off, is the same, if not MORE then what t-tops weigh.

Honestly the only weight difference I coudl see at all coming up is the weaterhstripping. But heck if you take a **** before you race, I am sure the weight would be evened out.


and structural integrity... yeah... its just some flimsy metal spot welded, like they just tacked it in place.


Unless you think the bendable "composite" roof is giving you a rigid chassis reinforcement. LOL
