Heh, that sounds like something my wife would tell me. I'm the computer whiz, that's what I went to college for and there will be times when she comes into my office and I have a computer in a million pieces and be stuck on a problem and almost always....
Are you going to need to bring it to a computer shop and let them fix this for you?(in that woman, nagging kind of voice)
Well, I don't have any friends that work on american vehicles. I have 2 friends that have taken auto class in high school and taken it in college and got their degree in it, but they work on their imports and they are just too weird to have them come to my house and help me. It's one thing to hang out with them in the parking lot and talk about useless things all night long and different mods for cars and stuff, but it's another to invite them over. And the one that I would actually invite over to help me, I can't because my wife totally loathes him and can't stand the sight of him. So, there went my hope :(

How did you learn how to do all this?
In my case, I learned by talking to people and doing. Be prepared to make mistakes, it will happen, and the mechanic that fixes your f- ups will call you an idiot. Before diving into a big project, talk to people. Go to meets, search the boards, or post questions. It always sux to find out there was a "trick" but you did things the hard way.
I have a friend that restored his 70 (? I think) GTO. He videotaped the entire tear down, so he would remember where everthing went. He put bolts in labelled bins.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
