Thats right boys and girls, add my car to list with Viper, Pathogen, Linxs and UDLOSE98 of f'd up motors this year. Yes, it was nitrous related, but it was USER ERROR and not the car or the nitrous that messed up.
My dad and I went to the local 1/8 mile track tonight where I made 5 successful runs and one REALLY bad one. It was cold (~43*F) so traction was terrible on street tires so I didnt arm the spray until after I launched. I have a WOT switch, but no window switch so I would manually arm the spray when I hit 3000 rpms and WOT, well on the last run I jumped the gun and armed it too early (under 3000 rpms), fuel puddled in the intake and ignited. All I heard was a loud pop and the car sputtered, died and coasted to the end of the track.
Popped the hood and the intake elbow was blown apart, the MAF screen was a ball of torn up metal shavings and the air filter was all black. Towed it back to the pits and the guy who ran behind me said all he saw was a huge puff of smoke.
The lil bit of good news is that there is no oil or antifreeze leaking. My best run of the night was a 9.26 spinning off the line AND when the spray kicked in, so I'm confident it would have gone 8.9x with good traction.
All in all it was 100% my fault. If I wasnt so dam jittery I would not have hit the juice when I did. I just should have installed the window switch in the first place though :twak:
Car is still at the track, we are going back tomorrow morning with my dad's trailer and bringing it home. I'll have pics up then too.
I never should have gone racing on Friday the 13th! :spank:
