Re: man what a night
ive had 3 german sheppards. best 3 damn dogs ive ever had. everyone in my family has had at least one also(about 10 of them) never had a problem with a single one of them.
my mother in law has a 5 year old great dane, perfectly healthy and a buddy of mine has a 9 year old great dane thats perfectly healthy also. id rather be bitten by something that doesnt lock its jaws.
german sheppard > anything

Re: man what a night
OK bro before you start throwing out stupid ideas such as lock jaw..(sorry this pisses me off more then anything) do some research... lock jaw man i like wife's tales as well. there is nothing different then your Shep's skull and a Pitt's skull there is no locking bone, muscle nothing. it is all muscle and they can let go when they want to. the only difference is the way there muscle is formed.. and statictics show that you are 70%more likely to be bit by a German Shep then a pit. the only reason there are more reports of Pitts is because they do a lot more damage. i have raised pits i am a pit breeder and i have never had one problem. so next time you want to come onto my thread and talk about trust just keep your .02cents to your self...you don't have any idea what you are talking about...and i know this is a forum but dont bash on peoples things like that i take this...pit problem stuff to heart.. i moved from denver so i could keep my dog and now there is another bill in az that they are trying to do the same as denver did....
PS you are the reason i have so many people afraid of my dogs when i walk them.... you are the reason i go to places and get shunned. and you are the reason for the banning of this wonderful breed. tell me how evil all the dogs look. tell me what you see that's so UN trust worthy..

Re: man what a night
i took this from the dog bite stats website
not sure about dog bite statistics but 77% (approximately) of all dogs pass the temperment test, while a whopping 95% of pitbulls pass. As a breed the pitbull does better on the temperment test than retrievers, labs, dalmations, and almost any other "family friendly" breed there is. Please inform your mother that the german shepherd is bred to ATTACK PEOPLE while the pitbull is bred to attack DOGS. Oh, and expain that the reason that pits rarely bite people is BECAUSE OF not in spite of their selective breeding for fighting purposes. Tell her how a human-aggressive pit couldn't be safely fought and would be put down, so almost every trace of "human aggressive genes" was wiped out from this breed at one point. Oh, and look up that printout on the internet that has a picture of about 15 different breeds of purebred dogs and asks you to identify the pitbull. No one ever gets it right on the first try. Breed mis-identification is one of the 3 biggest problems facing our breed. And in spite of the fact that every flea-bag with a patch on its eye, or some scars, or a big head is labled a pit bull when it bites someone there still aren't numbers to back up the mindless sensationalistic propaganda spewed by our wonderful liberal media.

Re: man what a night
one more for you
Many sources propagate the myth that "pit bulls" have a "locking jaw" mechanism, and that the dog cannot let go once it has bitten. It is indisputable that pit bulls generally have strong jaws for their size. However, as stated by Dr. I. Brisbin (University of Georgia) "The few studies which have been conducted of the structure of the skulls, mandibles and teeth of pit bulls show that, in proportion to their size, their jaw structure and thus its inferred functional morphology, is no different from that of any breed of dog. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of any kind of 'locking mechanism' unique to the structure of the jaw and/or teeth of the American Pit Bull Terrier." Furthermore, the "pit bulls" that compete successfully in protection sports such as Schutzhund obviously do not display an inability to release their grips after biting, as releasing the decoy's sleeve on command is an integral part of scoring the competition [4].
