Thinking about buying this car...

i was looking around for a sentra ser or mazdaspeed protege, but haven't really found any worth checking out. my dad came across a 2001 jetta back home that i'm going to check out. its a glx model, so it's one of the top performance models available. i wasn't too fond of driving a jetta at first, but once i saw the pics of it, it looks like a nice car. the only thing i don't like about it is the auto trans.

i don't really know anything about jettas, does anyone know about their porformance? i'm not expecting it to be fast, but it does need to be an upgrade over my firebird. if anyone has any input about jettas let me know. i plan on getting a new set of factory vw17's or 18's and thats all i'll change on the car.

edit: thats not the price i'm going to pay, he offered my dad $11k so we're going to talk it down some more.

the newer ones look LOADS better than the old ones, not a bad choice for a newer car IMO.

but i think id just stick with the bird, your car is really nice looking if its the one im thinking of. why are you looking to get rid of the bird anyway?

dude, my friend just took back his rental car... JETTA... and it just didn't suit me. It didn't have that much power, it handled okay, and i just didn't feel too comfortable on the inside. just my opinion

my bird is getting old and i'm just tired of it. i have a job where i'm driving around all day and i'm in and out of businesses so my car will start to take a beating. its not comfortable for the type of driving i do for work and i'm scared it won't make it much longer w/o something going wrong.

Its not american dont buy it and for 10 grand you can find a nice camaro or firebird

understood. its a decent looking car and will meet your needs. have you looked at newer civic's or accords? hyundai has a few cars that are worth looking at too. keep us updated on how things go, good luck with your search.

i don't want another f-body right now. i'm 23 and work for a marketing company. i drive around all day and basically live out of my car. an f-body won't give me the mileage i need or the comfort i want. once i have the money for a second car i'll buy a weekend car.

no haven't really looked toward honda. i want something a little different, thats why i was leaning toward the nissan and mazda. my price range is around $10k so that takes away the newer cars. i can't see myself driving a hyundai or kia, whether its a brand new car or not.

If you like the Sentra SER's check out the Infinity G20...Basically a luxury version of the Sentra. Nice thing is they have the bullet proof SR20 motor in it. Although a Infinity, you can get them in your price range. If you look hard enough you can find a manual. Just a thought.

if you are a vw buff and you have a thing for jettas, the vr6 is the car for you.

it is not a performance upgrade over your v6 firebird. i believe it does a 16+ second 1/4 mile (according to http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html which is not always all that accurate, but it indicates 0-60 as LESS THAN 8 SECONDS)

mr2 is too small. i want to have some more room in my next car, hence why i'm looking for a 4 door sedan. i need something that can carry passengers comfortably b/c i'm tired of cramming people in my backseat. i also want a functional trunk so if i put subs in the back they won't take up all of the space.

this is really bad... i'm already picking out new wheels for the car. i like this set on ebay which would be perfect since the warehouse is in the same city as the car. :)

Buy a cavalier then i have 2 of them and they get good mpg, nice looking cars, american, and the z24 is a little sporty and best of all you can find one with low miles and real cheap and can have money left over

most american cars seem cheap to me. i was in valet for 9 months before my marketing job and i've driven all kinds of cars. to me american cars seem "cheap" compared to certain foreign cars. one of my biggest concerns about a new car is interior. none of the american cars in my price range have an interior as nice as many foreign cars.
